Should Joker have a movie of origins and beginnings?

#1 Posted by Jerry Seinfeld (598 posts) - - Show Bio

Should Joker have a movie with himself apart from Batman about his origin story and growing up or would this rob the character of his awesome mysteriousness? If so it should be like a R rated slasher but with a comic theme and character.

I'd be cool but I say no because I'd rob what makes Joker so cool being mysterious. Is that your reason too.

I'd like to see a game of The Joker instead.

If it's a movie adaptation of The Killing Joke, then I can see it going PG-13...not rated R slasher. A few people get shot, a few borderline-nude photos are shown; simple stuff.

#7 Posted by Jerry Seinfeld (598 posts) - - Show Bio

The Killing Joke sounds like a perfect Joker movie it's a possible R rated film or at least a directors cut version thats R and original version being PG 13.

we could'nt have a origin story because there is'nt one for the joker we only know how he became the joker and that he had a pregnent girlfriend and thats it, we dont know where he came from, whats his name and i would rather see his origin in a comic book first.
#9 Posted by Jerry Seinfeld (598 posts) - - Show Bio

Your right I couldn't take it on screen first as seriously and wouldn't believe it to be real. The Killing Joke movie seems the best way to go then.

Only if it was a pshychological thriller with different & conflicting stories that mess with the viewers' heads, like that one episode of Aeon Flux where she kept waking up in parallel lives.

Many Joker fans I've talked to agree that while Barbra Gordon's origins as Oracle stems from The Killing Joke, the Joker's origins in that story are not canon. The Joker that was the Red Hood was from a parallel universe that was destroyed, just like Jason Todd really did die, but this Jason Todd isn't from this universe (damn, I'm trying to make sence out of the Crisis Clusterfuck). Batman Confidential trumps The Killing Joke & the Ledgends of the Dark Knight series.

does he even have a comic book origin? i dont read dc stuff so i dont know

#12 Posted by NightFang (9985 posts) - - Show Bio

I say yes but it would have to end the same way "The Killing Joke" did.

#13 Edited by The Dave (142 posts) - - Show Bio

It'd be a Batman Movie still, but any Batman story with the Joker in it is a Joker story anyway.. lol
Origin movie would remove a little of what made him imo, He said himself if he was going to have an origin, he'd rather it be multiple choice. (Kinda like Dark Knights joker "You wanna know how I got these scars?" being different each time)

ps: The Killing Joke would def make a wicked movie though.

No, Joker is fine as he is.  I don't think any "origin" prequel to any comic based movie is going to be decent any time soon.
I haven't read the Killing Joke, it may very well be a great flick, but I think comic book movies need to come in at a much lower budget in general. The dollar sign ($) is just a symbol for a soul with a slash in it.

No, the Joker is overexposed as it is. The Joker's past whereabouts should remain mysterious because it plays into that "wild card" status quo.

No, some things are best left unsaid.

What makes the Joker a great villain is because his origin is so mysterious. It's been told numerous times, sure, but none of those are his actual origin, just speculation.

I think the Joker needs an origin story. It would tamper with his mysteriousness, yes, but it would also give him more dimension. We might not need a Joker past but the Joker defiantly does. He needs something to tie him down to Earth, and not just some maniacal need of destruction. There is a preserving force that keeps the Joker alive, I think that that force is a desire to return to another time before his transformation.  So why can't we have the whole story? To some people, he is more than just Batman's nemesis. I want more for the Joker than just a tool created to keep Batman running.

The Joker can't tell the story, obviously, because he is a very secretive character. There has to be someone out there in the DC universe that can. I'm thinking...past lover maybe?

Joker is fine the way he is but when I'm old and gray it would be neat to hear of his origin.
#22 Posted by Sidney (1272 posts) - - Show Bio

Not Joker's orgins. Just do it like the original Halloween movie. Have Joker locked up in an asylum were he escapes. And he wrecks havoc in a fictional city outside Gotham. And only a sharp, cunning police detective can bring Joker down. No ones knows if Joker is even from Gotham City, so him being in another city be fine. And it would not be an orgins movie, but rather a horror film in itself. Since Magneto is getting a movie and he is X-Mens top super villian, no reason why Joker cannot have a movie to himself.

It 'd be awesome butt no bcause Everyone dat I know, including myself loves his mysterious hiatis,so dat would kinda ruin dat so nooo but maybe a R rated cartoon or game would be cool tho.

If they want money they will.

Something like Arkham Asylum: Serious House on Serious Earth would be okay but the Joker exists because Batman exists. The two cannot be separated. Also, we don't know anything about Joker the man pre-Batman. All those stories are just stories, probably lies he decided to tell Batman. I think Lovers and Madmen is that best.

No because no one really knows his real origin or his real name.

Some are even claiming that is Alfred.

Besides Hollywood would just mess it up

Some even say is Jack, but the truth is that it has never been revealed.

as much as i like the mysterious aspect of the joker if they made an origin story for the 2008 movie joker id have to watch it coz to be honest i hate the mystery about the joker i love it but I MUST KNOW. Although if they do make it the movie better be good. I think they could do it as long its not just violent stupidity and puns id like to think that he was like some sort of anti hero himself until he became disturbed and thats what i want to see that whole process. as well as how he got "those scars" wanna know how i got these scars could be the tagline. Anyway yh make the movie but make it fckin good or else

How can a character without an origin have a movie based on his origin? It is a paradox!

#34 Posted by Dracade102 (8167 posts) - - Show Bio

I'd Like to See The Penguin getting a Little More Limelight... Heath Ledger made Joker overrated as it is...

They could do like an origin story based on the Killing Joke, or just something original and turn it into a TV series. It could be about before he was the Joker, like a struggling comedian and a small time crook trying to bring up a family, then slowly evolve him to that point where he just snaps and turns into the Joker. Man I should pitch that idea to WB, lol.

I'd love to see him get his own movie or have a movie or serious entirely from his perspective? Could you imagine being inside Jay's head for 30 minutes or even an hour? That would be crazy. As much as I would love to know where he came from and what made him go bonkers....it might actually ruin the character. But then again if we had an excellent writer it might be able to get pulled off and leave him still as he was.

#40 Posted by The_Martian (36984 posts) - - Show Bio

Why would he have a movie about his origins when there isn't a comic about them?

#41 Posted by DeathpooltheT1000 (10282 posts) - - Show Bio

Yes and later we have a movie aboyur Harley Quin, late a movie about The Riddler and later one about Dick grayson .(Sarcasm)
No the Joker should not have a origin and he dont need a movie, look at Catwoman.

#42 Posted by gambit987 (1275 posts) - - Show Bio

the johers past should remain secret that is just a cool thing from the joker
