@Tellumo: I have read Batman for close to 40 years and I haver never read a good Bamtan story penned by Morrison.
Joker
Character » Joker appears in 4240 issues.
The Joker, Clown Prince of Crime, is Batman's arch-nemesis. An agent of chaos known for his malicious plots, wacky gadgets and insidious smile, he has caused Batman more suffering than any other villain he has ever faced. His origin, name, and true motivations remain a mystery.
DC Comics Announces the Return of The Joker
Its been killing me to know who Snyder's favorite villain would be. Now that we know its the Joker, I can't wait to see him in the story arc. So the story is called Death of the Family? I wonder who's dying? I wonder what the hell he's been doing since Detective Comics Detective Comics #1? I love the teaser, its creepy, frightening, its Joker, and to me since he's returning in Batman #13, its going to be crazy. The number 13 to some people is an unlucky number. SO Batman 13 will be unlucky for the Dark Knight since its the return of his greatest enemy!!!
I wonder if the Joker knows about the whole Court of Owls almost killing Batman?

...I'm sorry, did the Joker actually go anywhere? I love how people are gushing over the return of a character who hasn't been seen in less than ten issues. Some characters would kill to show up every ten issues. For the Joker, that's insufferable.
Um, he hasn't been seen since his faced was carved off in Detective Comics #1 and in this New 52 that means something. I mean, right off the bat of the New 52 and his face is carved and we don't hear any more on it till now? That's big.
ahhh i was hoping Snyder would do a two face story arc next...but joker is undoubtedly one of the best villains as well.
cant wait :)

DC could have left Joker alone for another year and I would have been ok with it. But I know he's in good hands. No doubt Snyder will give us an AMAZING Joker story.
I'm straining a bit - by what objective measure could it be said that Marvel 'perfected' the teaser ? I seem to remember DC doing a fairly good marketing job of pumping up 'Crisis on Infinite' - which was a sister to the Marvel 'Secret Wars' in terms of scope. Other than that, can you really empirically justify one page cliffhangers at the end of issues 'perfecting' a teaser ? Curious.

By the time we get this issue it will have been a year since his last appearance, almost two years since he last contributed anything of worth to a Batman story and between four or five years since the last time he had a story arc centred around him. That's a long time for a character who most would agree, is DC's most famous villain. That's why people are so excited about this news.
My reaction to this news.

THIS is how you do a teaser poster. I approve of this. Also for some reason I'm hearing Mark Hamil's Joker Laugh.
if they would have made this with an audio of Hamil doing his really dark Joker laugh then it would have been perfect and really chilling

@jsphsmth: Grant Morrison?
You are kidding, correct?
Say what? Morrison might be one of the best Batman writers of all time.
This IS a great teaser poster. To be honest, I am actually anxious for Snyder to move on to something that isn't Court of Owls-related.
SIDENOTE: The Marvel teaser vs DC teaser argument and the Morrison discussions seem to be taking up more space here than seems necessary. A Snyder Joker story ought to give us plenty of food for thought without having to get into arguments happening in plenty of other places.
I've been waiting for a real Joker story for a long time now. He's only been teased with one appearance at the beginning of the New 52 back in Detective Comics #1 and before that he'd only popped up here and there for years. I knew they were holding off on paying off that cliffhanger for something big and I'm really glad it was a Scott Snyder story. So looking forward to this.

Yes, but when #13 comes out it will have been 13 issues since (counting #0). And it's not like Amazing Spider-Man which is out twice a month. Joker's leaves for just over a year in THE NEW 52. You'd think he'd be headlining it along with Batman in Bat titles but he went off the radar.
I'm glad Snyder is writing it. TBH I was hoping for a solid Mr. Freeze story since Snyder toted with him in the annual, anyone else agree? Mr. Freeze IMO needs a good story arc, since we don't have a lot of him. Anyway the teaser is sick, and I honestly can't wait for this arc! SO SICK!!

Exactly. There's a world of difference between him simply being off the radar for a year and them having left things off with a hell of a cliffhanger for over a year and it having been significantly longer than that since he's been at the center of a story as the main villain.

@Suprman: its the same as any other marvel teaser. how i love that what marvel does is shit, but dc does it its golden. pfff.
Also if this was a Marvel teaser we'd get complaints of another event right after another one.

@G-Man Did I read correctly that the new storyline will be 'Death in the Family" ? Or was that a mistyping referring to the death of Jason todd storyline? Since each of the bat-family has their own book, I cant imagine Joker could kill off another bat-member
The new storyline is actually called "Death of the Family."

Awesome I'm so glad DC gave it to Snyder rather than one of the other lame Batman writers doing Detective Comics and Batman:TDK.
Greg Hurwitz has taken over TDK, and while we've only seen one issue of his so far, he's really turned the title around. I'd say TDK #10 was comparable to Batman #10.
