John Constantine, the Hellblazer, is a working-class magician, occult detective and a golden-tongued con man. He is well-known for his scathing wit, endless cynicism, ruthless cunning and constant chain smoking. A roguish counterculture anti-hero, Constantine is also a strident humanist driven by a heartfelt desire to defend mankind from the forces of evil.
After today's issue of X-Factor (#246) I'm going with Pip the Troll as my choice. Now before everyone points out that they are nothing alike let me explain myself. I think their personalities are very similar - their both basically selfish b******* that appear self serving but are out doing the right thing. They also operate in similar fashion - only replace Constatine's magical knowledge and artefacts with Pip's cosmic knowledge and gizmos. Anyone else get this vibe or am I alone on this one?
@The_Soverighn: I would say Pete Wisdom is the closest thing Marvel have to Constantine, there close enough to be similar but different enough to not be rip offs.
One is a hard smoking, British occult detective with a sardonic wit, that's always one step ahead of everyone and will always hurt the ones around him and the other is a British secret agent with mutant powers that mostly deals with magical problems and has a sardonic wit and is always one step ahead of everyone and will sacrifice pepole for the greater good.
Honestly, Ghost Rider (Johnny Blaze) could be written off as Marvel's equivalent of John Constantine. The reason being both charactersare "Johns" and have delt with occult magic before. Plus, in the underrated Ghost Rider movie Johnny Blaze (played byNick Cage) pretty much acted the way John Constantine acts. And yes, I know Etrigan is closer to Ghost Rider because they are demons who come straight from hell
