    All Martians do

Having seen the movie which preceded this and not exactly knowing what to expect, I can say that this issue is a little off the mark.  I did like the movie, but the movie nonetheless still had a number of weaknesses.  Among them were the all-too convenient plot devices - being in close proximity to all the action on a planetary scale, an assault by unknown forces at an opportune time - which made the movie less believable and additionally cast doubt on the more fanciful aspects of suspension of disbelief involved in the movie.  These same elements are present here as well which in the pages of a comic become all the more blatant.  One thing which is good about comics as compared to similar movies, is that they can use a different focus to change their pacing and tone, but here the writers seem interested primarily in keeping the movie going longer than it should have.
