Start Acting Like A Giant
We are past the half way point in eight issue mini series and at times there are more questions than there are answers. That is not to say that there are not slow reveals that clue you into what is going on in the multiple worlds that Joe walks in. Some times you just have to pay attention as they are put there for you 2 find on your own.
Some people have said that they feel this story is losing its momentum and I find myself wanting to agree but disagree as well. I think in the long run you will either love this book or be indifferent about it. The art is just fantastic and the character design is one of the best parts of this story.
This however is a series that you have to read from the start or you will be lost and unable to get into Joe The Barbarian. Mostly because that first issue is so important in setting the stage and cluing you into what is going on in Joe's life. As the story goes on you get another little nugget of insight every issue and it helps to flesh everything out making this a very unique story that is a mix of fantasy and real life every day struggles.
With Grant Morrison I find that people either love his work or hate his work. I would say that you can not not judge Joe on an issue to issue basis as in the end this eight issue story needs to be judged as a whole. There is a slow but steady progression in each issue and you know that this is going somewhere.
Joe walks that line between the two worlds with tight rope precision and if you have not stared with issue one you need to back up and start from there.
Overall I would give this issue a 4 out of 5. Yes is slowed a tad but it is still a solid story and the art alone is worth giving it a 3. I know I did not give a lot away as I feel you need to read this story to appreciate this.
