    This comic is Gorgeous

So I was at my local comic store, picking up my new titles, when i stumbled upon Joe the barbarian. At first i was hesitant because of the reason that no Vertigo title currently going on has really grabbed my attention. I would never suspect that underneath a cover of a scrawny kid and his pet rat, would be a work of art! I was hooked and just had to add it to my stack. i went home and reread Joe the barbarian a three times before i was finally able to move onto my other comics. I didn't quite know what it was about this issue that grabbed me, i looked on the cover to see who the writer and artist was and...BAM!!! This comic was written by none other than Grant Morrison!!!! I was like....WoW! this is just too good to be true! Now that i have finished expressing my excitment, i want to talk as to why this comic works. for one the Art is beautiful, i found myself staring at every detail in every panel. there is one huge spalsh page where we find Joe sitting in a cemetary by himself, and the art is gorgeous. i spent several minutes looking closely at the sky on that page. Now good art really helps when looking at a comic, however great art goes beyond pure eye candy. Sean Murphy has really outdone himself, as well as Grant Morrison. What i was really blown away by was that the art itself tells the story, there is no need for many word balloons or thought bubbles. The placement of objects within the story as well as the placement of the comic panels help move the story along gracefully. When reading and viewing the art one can gain a sense of how depressed Joe is, as well as how gloomy his life in the real world is. All in all there were no problems in my eyes. defenitly if you are a fan of Grant Morrison/ Sean Murphy, or the Fantasy genra, I highly suggest you pick this up!  Even if you are super against reading this book/ unsure, i still suggest you give this title a chance; if you don't want to pay for it at least read it off the shelf. Curse You Grant Morrison!!!! for giving me another reason to spend more money on comics!!!

      Hey Joe 0

I think it's really hard to write a review of the first issue of an eight part series. Even a book written by comic book heavy weight Grant Morrison and drawn to perfection by Sean Murphy doesn't really show it's hand enough to make a judgment call.  What I can say is that it looks amazing. There isn't a lot of dialog but the narrative is made clear by the setting and expressions. Although I can't comment to much on the story (which honestly could be summed up in a couple of sentences but it wou...
