Joe DiMaggio (1914 - 1999) was a highly successful baseball player whose career lasted from 1936 to 1951. He is strongly associated with the New York Yankees. He played for the team from 1936 to 1942 and again from 1946 to his retirement. The only break was for service in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was married twice, both to actresses. His first wife was Dorothy Arnold. They married in 1939 and divorced in 1944. His second wife was Marilyn Monroe. They married in 1954 and divorced in 1955. DiMaggio curiously seems to maintained relationships wit both wives for years after the respective divorces.

Joe set a record in 1941 which still stands 70 years later, this now being 2011. The record is for the number of consecutive games with at least one hit and his record is 56 straight games. Some experts have speculated that this could be the one baseball record that will never be broken.

Simon and Garfunkel had an extremely popular song called "Mrs. Robinson". There was a line in the song that asked the question, "Where have you gone, Joe Dimaggio, our nation turns it's lonely eyes to you?"
