    One Surprising Read

At first glance, I'll admit that this seemed like a throw away book. It's clear what the book is aiming to communicate and act as; a means of showing Wonder Woman's strength as an individual, without the team by her side (albeit, the dragon is rather confusing all things considered). And, the book does deliver this, but in a way that is moderately fleshed out, satisfying, and earnestly enjoyable in a way that is surprising.

The basic plot is that there's a dragon who's been asleep for the last few hundred years, and is now destined to kill the Justice League. Wonder Woman, now the only one cursed with this knowledge, fights to face this conflict on her own; but, to do so, she must *ahem* deter her comrades from joining her. It's very simple, but there's some solid character work done here; everyone has distinct personalities that match their usual characters, but they way everyone talks, interacts, etc. feels more natural than most of what I've read from DC. And Wonder Woman has some pretty solid development all around, despite the simplicity of the story.

The art is very unlike what I've seen in the past, taking a misty, hazy, realistic air about it, and it looks great, especially considering that it's consistent all the way through. This being the one and only issue of the story, everything is a constant here, which is nice in a world that seems to be constantly changing author and artists mid-way through most stories.

The only real issue I have with it is the narration, which feels awkward and can get in the way of what is happening. The only other reason why this isn't a 5/5 is that it's a short work. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, for what it is, but I can't say in good conscience that it's as good as some of the best, complex comics that I've reveled in.

I'm honestly struggling to find much to say about this without giving away much more. The dialogue sounds great and is natural, the fights are enjoyable and has stakes, and it's a quick, fun read. Nothing incredibly consuming, it's a nice experience for a few hours one calm afternoon.
