It's been a long time since Jean Grey was alive. She often gets flack for dying and coming back but since her death in NEW X-MEN #150, it's been over eight years since we've seen her.

Why mention her now? Entertainment Weekly's Pop Watch posted some details on this week's Comic-Con issue. Besides the expected coverage of what you can expect to see, they mention and show and exclusive first look at the following image:

This is from an image by Joe Quesada. We can see she is in her classic/original costume. This could be something as simple as a flashback story to the X-Men's early days but it sounds as if they're making more out of this than that.

EW mentioned the following:

We can only confirm that her presence in the Marvel universe will not be imaginary. This will not be part of the Ultimate line-up. She will not be a zombie hologram, like Shard on X-Factor.

Apparently more information will be revealed tomorrow.

Thoughts? Is it time for Jean's return? Why is she in her old costume?

I would very much love if she's coming back for realzies.. BUT. Since Joe Q. Isn't flat-out denying that she's returning...that's probably not the case.

Most characters will die in AvsX, then Punisher will kill the rest in This Is War. Punisher then commits suicide because he has finished his job. Next Jean comes back to life because she is bored she looks around and everyone's gone so she reboots the universe for 52 new comics to take place of all the old ones.

Marvel needs to start getting its shit together and keep characters dead for a loooooong time if they want any shock value attached to them again.

She should exist in Hope's mind to mentor her when she gets the Phoenix Force.

Also didn't Marvel tease that New X-Men series a while back that looked at the past of some specific Mutants?

Marvel should reallys top making false death, jean grey is dead tons of time, thor is dead and then rebirth, captain america too, captain marvel, uncle ben was alive 3 time now (before his murder, when strange gave peter a 5 min gift and in the 2012 annual) and i am sure there are tons of other characer like that.

They make this kind of thing only for the money because some dumb reader will buy it again.

A return would be nice. But why would adult Jean be wearing a teen uniform? I hope she doesn't come back to 616 to be Hope's age. Maybe Scarlet witch resets reality again. LOL

Fine by me, she shoulda been back a long time ago. I never understood why she had to be dead anyway. She is one of the main characters in the universe. Not to mention it had been done before and I'm sure it will get done again.

My most preferred form of Jean Grey is the dead one.

If she were to come back, only way I'd even be in slight support of it is if they have her completely stripped of Phoenix powers or, barring that, have her off on cosmic adventures, which is where the damn Phoenix should be.

Logan is just my preferred shipping option (I reallyyyyy want to see them actually together, not just sex eyes behind Scott's back).

Because Scott still has feeling for Jean. Emma being Emma will not take Jean being back too well, knowing that Scott still has feelings for her. It is a dynamic situation that I think could play out really well with a right writer.

She was the First X-Women, Omega-Level Telepathy & Telekinetic and the original host of the Phoenix Force, so back the Hell off. She is one of the greatest female X-men who ever lived. No one on that team power compare's to her.

Her return to comics would be great, and is something I have been expecting for years.
