I also have to agree that batman, inc. is kinda screaming for him to put on that cowl again - but call me crazy, I actually liked him better as the Red Hood.

in all fairness, there are many characters FAR more cliché - and FAR more beloved for it.    it's not about his origin so much as where he's been trying to go since then - besides, if you killed off every character that played up the word 'cliché', both Marvel and DC would lose about half their rosters

Jason Todd is so awful that comics fans paid money to have him killed off.  Bringing him back is a disgrace and removes character development from Batman, a far more important character.

Since his return, he's been written mostly by Judd Winnick and whatever morons were involved with Countdown so 90% of stories he has been in are absolutely awful.  His resurrection was sparked by Superboy Prime punching reality, also awful.

At the end of the day, the best thing you can say about Jason is that he is similiar to the Punisher, if you like that kinda thing.

Really?  In what way has Batman been effected?  He's just another Two-Face.  He's a character from Batman's past who is freaking insane and a little bit of Batman feels he failed him but mostly, he just wants the guy off the streets and locked up in Arkham.

It what stories has Jason been an interesting character and not just a Punisher rip off/random psycho?  The best Jason Todd story by far was told before his death in New Teen Titans when Donna Troy recruited him to join the Teen Titans.  He was a much more interesting character back then than he is now.

Babs, I'm going to have to staunchly disagree. His death already accomplished that and in a much more effective way. He was already the symbol of Batman's failure in death, that was his great impact, his one accomplishment. We saw Batman downward spiral in the following arc which introduced Tim Drake, the best Robin IMO. And Clayface impersonating him in Hush handled how Bruce would react to seeing him again, and how the memory of that failure still haunts him. Due to all of this I find his resurrection nothing but an ill-executed publicity stunt. It's a little too convenient that Winnick decided to (and haphazardly so) resurrect Jason Todd right when Bucky was being brought back @ Marvel. DC wanted to ride the wave and steal some thunder. They more or less took the whole angle Marvel was on. Bucky comes buck but as an edgy, deadlier version of his mentor whom he resents. Jason Todd just happens to be likewise...what a coincidence.

Judd Winnick voted to keep Jason and I'm pretty sure dedicated most of his life to get to this point just to piss people off. Bringing Jason back was a terrible decision for continuity and story line  now all he is is nothing more but another faceless rogue in the Bat Gallery his affect on the character was far more powerful as a haunting ghost on Batman's conscious not to mention his whole resurrection was rushed and uncreative

    What are you talking about?

The vote was if they should kill Jason or not kill Jason.  It had nothing to do with Grayson, who was the leader of the New Teen Titans, DC's best book at the time.  Even if 100% of the people who called in had voted to save Jason and expressed that they also hated Dick Grayson, they weren't gonna kill off Nightwing.

Yeah but unlike Jason, Dick lead DC's best selling book for a decade then had his own solo series that was pretty good for a decade and now he's being written by Grant Morrison.

That's a lot better than Jason Todd has been doing lately and probably better than Jason ever will do.
