A few years ago, the criminal The Red Hood turned out to be an ex-Robin, Jason Todd, the Robin that was beaten to death by Joker with a crowbar. It was a shock to most, since many people voted to kill Jason Todd off in the 80s. Although it was vaguely explained in the Batman run, there's a lot of details missing, like "How did he become the Red Hood?" DC comics is prepared to answer that now.

Writer Judd Winick and artist Pablo Raimondi hope to answer that question in June, with the debut of RED HOOD: THE LOST DAYS, a six-issue mini-series revealing the untold story of the man behind the Red Hood. It’s the tale of an angry young man’s transformation into a deadly villain.

    No Caption Provided
We'll finally know how the boy who tried to steal the tires from the Batmobile became a formidable Batman villain. We got a peak into Todd's history during the Under The Hood storyline in Batman, (Issues 635-638) and now we're going to find out how it all went down. All the questions should be answered. Judd Winick explained why he's so intrigued to do this story.

“I’m thrilled to return to this character, and it’s both a joy and challenge to tackle this new story. LOST DAYS tracks the time from the Red Hood’s rebirth to his return to Gotham. In it, we get to understand this anti-hero in a new way. I think it explains both how he’s sympathetic, and an unrepentant monster. He’s a wonderfully complex character, and I hope this adds some even greater depth to his mythology.”

The first two issues will hit before the release of Batman: Under The Hood DVD to get everyone pumped about the feature film. Get ready for June because this could be a blast!

I'm guessing that he had a bat tool to steal the wheels off the bat mobile. This is going to be good

Why can't they give Jason a look for more than a year? It just takes away from the character.

Well that looks to be a origin series in the time he was training so this may not be him changing his look but it going to an older look for the sake of flashbacks.

I really enjoyed Under the Hood by Winick and i believe he also wrote the GA issues with him, which again were really good. Everything else with Red Hood in has been pretty sub-par so Winick's return to the character is very welcome to me. And he's back in the one costume that suited him as well. Will be reading this.

While I can't wait for a Red hood series, I do hope it's under the current continuity, and not a flashblack series, but if judd wants to ignore grant morrison's current blend between Earth 1 and 2 Jason i.e. the ridiculous red hair I'll do a little rejoicing.

@Tyler Starke: ... im curious... wasnt Todd always a Ginger... cuz i thought he was the Ginger Robin that got voted to be killed off because he looked silly as a Ginger Robin... and now that hes a Ginger... its actually "hes a Ginger again"... and not "hes a Ginger now"...

That was Pre-Crisis Jason Todd who was in the Circus that was a red-head. When he was re-introduced in Batman in the issue where Batman and Jason Todd first met--this time he was a thief who boosted cars for tires, he did not have red hair, he had black.

I don't think Morrison would make an error like that and this is a retcon of post-Crisis Jason Todd having red hair.

Well, either that or he's just been Retconned again, since it's stated he dyed his hair black.

You are absolutely correct expect for one fact, Morrison is in charge of Batman for the time being, and he will do pretty much whatever he wants to do, I do enjoy his stories most of the time, but sometimes it just feels like he picks and chooses whichever piece of Batman history be it pre crisis or post crisis and jumbles it together. Morrison knows exactly what he's doing he gave Jason todd red hair because he arbitrarily wanted to. I don't know if I like his direction of Dick Grayson as Batman, I think Tony Daniels is doing a better job at the moment, just check out his latest issue 697, It feels like everyone has forgotten the character of Dick Grayson and just try and droll out a Bruce Clone, except for Daniels this man knows how to write Dick as Batman and Blends the two perfectly.

@ The Scientist: Morrison is a compulsive rectoner, That's the main driving force of Grant Morrison. Whatever he says is cannon, and whatever is cannon is subject to retcon post haste.

Todd was a acrobat ginger in pre-crisis and had almost the same origin as dick grayson, expect for the fact that he had red hair but Batman made him dye it when he took over the robin mantle. Post Crisis Jason Todd was a street punk who was discovered by Batman when he tried to steal the tires off the Batmobile and He had natural Black Hair, people had the choice to either save or kill him when the Batman arc known as Death in the Family came out, turns out people didn't like the mean gritty sassy robin and voted him to die.

    @Yung ANcient One:
Pre Crisis he had red hair, but Bruce basically made him dye his hair as a way to make him more like Dick Grayson, his story was also much more akin to Grayson's

Post Crisis his background was changed .

He was voted off because he wasn't Dick Grayson, he was more of a hard ball, wise guy.  It was actually a close count, but the result made the conclusion of Death in a Family have Jason die.

yeah i have a question... will they answer how he went from being a slightly aggressive, though slowly reforming sort've anti-hero in the aftermath of Infinite Crisis/build up to Final Crisis, to a batshit crazy gun-toting psychopath as shown in Battle for the Cowl??? I'd like that answered, :P

Oh. Great. How about DC picks something to do with Jason Todd and GOES WITH IT. If you're going to slap fans in the face by bringing him back (there's a REASON he was dead - THE FANS), then stop playing around with the idiot and choose a direction. I'm sick of this back and forth bull. Ooh, a backstory. Didn't we already get that in the annual?

Jazzed!  While I appreciated Grant's creating pathos with the red head thing, and really didn't mind the characterization in that arc, I'm glad to see the more "superheroic Punisher" take on the Red Hood from Winick's first use of him.  The back and forth with Black Mask was the stuff that dreams are made of...

@SuperXAsh:  Dead on!  Easily the worst thing about Battle for the Cowl.
