    Will The Trekkies Approve?

I've always liked Star Trek but I've never been passionate about it.  I would imagine there are those fans that are simply appalled by the idea of this movie.  I think it could be a good thing.  I do think the franchise needs a re-vamp in order to stay alive.  It seems to have worked, somewhat, for Battlestar Galactica.

Here's the latest Star Trek trailer in case you haven't seen it or have only seen the bootleg versions floating around the web.

What's your opinion?  Looks good to me.

This looks really good, and I agree it could be the kick in the pants the Star Trek franchise needs.   The first movie that isn't comic book/superhero themed I am excited to see.

I have a friend that worked on it & he said the hardcore dogmatic trek fans might have problems with it but otherwise its supposed to be pretty entertaining. Its written by the same guys that wrote Transformers so if you liked that, you'll probably like this.

It looks like the people in charge have finally figured out the truth: making movies that appeal to the hardcore Trekkie fringe is a one way ticket to failure.  This movie seems to be a huge step in the right direction.  I've already heard screams of "IT DOESN"T FEEL LIKE STAR TREK" from the most rabid fanboys around the internet, and I'm inclined to agree.  It doesn't feel like Star Trek at all, since it actually looks like a good movie that can appeal to anyone, not just fans steeped in Star Trek lore.

I really enjoyed The Original Series (TOS). That was the Trek that I grew up on in re-runs. The films were hit or miss. I liked the even ones, the odd numbered ones, not so much. TNG was pretty good. Those films were probably what killed the franchise. From the trailer, I'm excited to see what this movie is all about. It could be very cool.

It looks like they gave the same treatment to the Star Trek film series in this movie as they did the Batman film series in Batman Begins.  This is a SMART, EXCELLENT move since Batman Begins made Batman relevent again in the 21st century.  Star Trek doesn't have to be about the "dork" and it never was intended to be.  We'll see if Mr. Abrams injected enough of the wonder of exploration aspect into this to even out the generic action parts, but the trailor did its job, get me excited about being entertained by the film.  I'm a huge Star Trek fan, but I can admit when a new direction needs to be taken to keep Star Trek relevant and around.  Star Trek in any form is better than not having it around at all.

I think it looks awesome.  I've always found Star Trek moves boring.  J.J. Abrams was able to make Cloverfield more than just another monster flick, so hopefully he can do the same with Star Trek.

Sylar definitely fits the part. Though I have doubts about the concept.  During the opening of the trailer when, Kirk is driving the car I honestly though it was an ad leading into the trailer.  That's not good lol.

I have come to terms over the past year or so that I am in fact a trekky. Although I don't think the franchise is the greatest thing to happen to sci-fi (I think in general it's a good mid-quality, campy, but fun universe) I have to admit to seeing every single episode of Star Trek that has ever aired. It's about the easiest pulp on TV to imbibe and sometimes specific story-arcs and episodes can be quite awesome.

I am DEEPLY excited for this film if only to keep the thing alive. A franchise as positive and hopeful as Star Trek really shouldn't die.

I've actually started to watch re-runs of the 60's series on TV since finding out that this movie was coming out. It's kinda revitalized my affection for this franchise. I have to say that I am really excited about this movie. The casting is great, the VFX look stellar, I can't wait 2 be honest with you. This flick is definitely opening night material as far as I'm concerned. I think I'll pick up a couple of t-shirts today on my way home from work. Thanks for the post.

Hrm...As someone raised on OS, and watched TNG avidly in my twenties....I....

...am reserving judgment. Rock Berman is not involved, so I am hopeful.

For action, yeah it looks kick butt, but given the effects now a days, couldn't ST at LAST go in for aliens that are more than just people with fancy foreheads?

I do hope that is a young Uhura in the background there and I do hope the Kobeyashi Maru incident is included in this.

BTW-How the hell do they build a spaceship like that landbound? To heck with the dogmatic ST fans, the physics people and engineers are going to have fits.

I think the movie will be really good. It definitely looks exciting. I never would have thought Zachary Quinto for Spock...he definitely looks the part; I just hope he can portray him right.

I hope the hardcore Trekies don't freak out about it...but I'd understand if they do. Messing with the original is a dangerous business. I liked the Star Trek films a bit, but this more modern version may score the "Next Generation" of fans...pun DEFINITELY intended! ;)
