'Star Trek Into Darkness' Teaser Trailer

James Tiberius Kirk became the youngest Captain in the United Federation of Planets' Starfleet, at 31, and is best known for his maverick command of the U.S.S. Enterprise, saving the Earth on two publicly-recognized occasions in 2271 and 2286, and his involvement in a record 17 temporal anomalies.

A couple weeks ago, Paramount made a 'video announcement' for the upcoming teaser trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness. It was essentially a minute long look at what we could expect to see today. A lot of imagery and scenes were thrown at us and there's been a lot of speculation over the plot, including the full exact role of Benedict Cumberbatch.

It's a little odd that this trailer has been released after many have already seen the 9-minute preview attached to some IMAX screenings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. As you'll see below, this trailer almost has a Man of Steel teaser trailer feel, released earlier this year.

It definitely has a different tone.

Star Trek Into Darkness will be released on May 17, 2013.

I think Cumberbatch is playing Q from Next Generation, not Khan.

Pause it at 1:07 in HD to see a link to the start of a viral campaign entitled http://www.areyouthe1701.com/

The 1701 is some sort of serial number for the Enterprise, at least that's what another website believed.

So do you guys think someone is dying at the end, I mean they did tease us with the "hands to glass" scene. I doubt Cumberbatch is playing Kahn but I'll take bets on their being a major death somewhere along the line.

Cumberpatch is playing Gary Mitchell, even Karl Urban has confirmed this in interviews..."John Harrison" is just a bit of disinformation that was put out there. The movie is using the basic premise of the episode from TOS: "Where No Man Has Gone Before". And from what I know, the blonde woman isn't playing Dr. Dehner, but Carol Marcus.

I feel like they're really taking ques from the Mass Effect franchise with the new films, or maybe the similarities between them are just reinforcing that idea in my head.

In any case, it looks beautiful.
