It's hard to believe that Star Trek Into Darkness will be released in just six months. It feels like the movie and production have been flying under the radar as I haven't noticed any updates. Either there haven't been any or I've just been completely missing them.

Early this morning Paramount sent over a teaser for movie.

Right away you can see it doesn't have the typical Star Trek feel to it. The official website doesn't have any information but you can see bits of debris falling. Seeing the shape of the emblem is pretty cool and you have to wonder what is going on here? Who is this standing there, is it Kirk or the rumored villain for the movie?

As for what the premise of this movie is, Parmount's official synopsis is:

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

J.J. Abrams is back directing. Pretty much the entire crew is returning as well including Chris Pine as Captain Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock. As we approach the May 17, 2013 release date, we're bound to find out more.

Dope poster! Definitely is going to have new tone from the first one, can't tell if its Kirk standing there or not but it totally could be. Really pumped for this one, and we haven't gotten a lot of extremely early released material so the wait isn't going to be that long thank goodness.

That is a stupid name for the movie.

"a one man weapon of mass destruction" - Benedict Cumberbatch's Khan Noonien Singh??

Cool poster. I'm getting a Dark Knight vibe from it for some reason.

Judging from the size of the cheekbones, i'd say it's cumberbatch as the villain.

Aside from TNG, I've never been a real Star Trek fan. I did enjoy the last movie and am looking forward to this sequel though.

I read Parmount's official synopsis for this movie and instead of being awed, I'm chuckling over how epically silly it sounds!

I'm sorry, but "epic chess game of life and death"? "With a personal score to settle"? "love will be challenged"? This whole thing sounds like a poorly done soap opera! When a film's teaser is WAY too over the top like that, it discourages me from seeing it at all.

On the other hand, Benedict Cumberbatch, squee, so I might check it out when it comes to dvd.

Even though I am not a huge Star Trek fan I am pretty excited for this movie. I really enjoyed the first one

Kill me now. Remember when Star Trek used to be about stories about people and morality and the human race, stories that would be as relatable 1000 years ago as they would be now, all wrapped up in this great fantastical setting. Remember when it used to be about showing us a bright future free of racial or religious persecution. Now it's transformers meets the Dark Knight. Gene Rodenberry must be turning in gold plated casket.

Liked the first one despite not really being a ST fan so most likely I will check that. And it is a very nice cover.

This is exciting! I loved the previous film!

Actually, if anyone's been really following production of this, more than likely its NOT Khan. If you're going to IMDB for your info, you're going to have a bad time. And the interviews with various actors, its understood they've all been saying conflicting things to mess with people.

Think there's also something to that last bit in the synopsis... 'the only family Kirk has left...' i.e. what happened to his brother and mother?

Again, the whole point of making up an alternate universe is to be able to tell some new stories. Would be totally meaningless and senseless to do a 'Wrath of Khan' reboot for Star Trek '2'.

Not just debris - it's the logo of the film torn into a building/structure. I'm sure other movie posters have done this but The Dark Knight Rises did it pretty predominantly less than six months ago.

Whoa. Seems intense. Awesome poster image. Hoping it will be a good movie and I suspect it will, given the previous one.

This is also the first bit of news pertaining this movie I've heard. Yet that's a good thing, too much info and all gets spoiled.

Wife's pretty excited, won't lie. I will certainly watch to see how it goes.

The Gherkin and London Eye are in the background of the poster so I'm guessing we may see an Earth city other than San Francisco which would be interesting. May just be a reference to Benedict Cumberbatch playing the villain though.
