Origin

Jack O' Lantern I

Daniel Cormack of Ireland was born to a poor farmer who was granted a magic lantern by an Irish fairy. He helped heroes from Ireland and England save the world during the Crisis on Infinite Earths. While the Justice League became the world's greatest heroes, Jack joined the Global Guardians. After the team disbanded, he went on to join Rumaan Harjavti's army in Bialya.

After Harjavti was killed by the Queen Bee of Bialya, Jack voluntarily joined forces with the villainess in taking over the world. He was left dying in a sewer after a battle with the Justice League. However, he was found alive by his girlfriend Owlwoman. Afterwards, Jack died of natural causes.

Jack O'Lantern II

A Bailyan named Marvin Noronsa subsequently took the Jack O'Lanterm identity at Queen Bee's behest. The imposter Jack O'Lantern was killed by Owlwoman after she learned the truth.

Jack O'Lantern III

More recently, Cormack's cousin Liam McHugh took the mantle of Jack O'Lantern after learning of his cousin's death. He had only been operating as Jack for a short time when he answered the call of the Leymen. Joining other heroes who also heard the call, the group (known as Primal Force) confronted the powerful being known as Cataclysm. Throughout his time with this team, Liam would question his abilities and his role as an effective hero. After a particularly intense battle, Liam was believed to have died. However, he had actually been transported to the dimension of the Water Woman, an aged mystic being. The Water Woman showed Liam images of various other heroes and shared their stories of perseverance. It was from her that Liam learned that he would one day become leader of the Leymen. During his time with Primal Force, Liam had somehow internalized the powers of the pumpkin lantern, no longer needing to carry it with him. He used this new ability to great effect in Primal Force's final confrontation with Cataclysm. After Primal Force disbanded, Liam returned to Ireland where he continued his heroic career until he joined the International Ultramarine Corps.
