Did anyone see Argo, the film that just won the 2012 Best Picture Oscar?
Did you happen to notice the character named 'Jack Kirby'? This was no mere homage. Turns out the real life storyboard artist for the 'fake' film 'Argo' was none other than Jack 'King' Kirby - co-creator of much of the Marvel and DC Universes!
He created the artwork that played a critical role in the plans to rescue 6 Americans trapped in Iran and (minor spoiler: may have been what saved the lives of all seven people)
If you aren't familiar with the story, I encourage you to check out the film. For further reading, there's also an article on it at Comics Alliance. And here's the page about the operation on the CIA's website (though it doesn't mention Kirby by name).
It's interesting that the co-creator of Captain America was himself an American hero - even though it was classified for nearly 20 years.
