    Jack Kirby

Person » Jack Kirby is credited in 3373 issues.

One of the medium's most prolific artistic legends, Jack Kirby, "The King of Comics," was an artist, writer, and editor whose work spanned the Golden, Silver, Bronze and Modern ages of comics. Kirby created and co-created a multitude of Marvel and DC's most popular characters and many others, too. Kirby was one of the most respected artists of his time (though he didn't have personal knowledge of that, until later on), and remains so today.

Did anyone see Argo, the film that just won the 2012 Best Picture Oscar?

Did you happen to notice the character named 'Jack Kirby'? This was no mere homage. Turns out the real life storyboard artist for the 'fake' film 'Argo' was none other than Jack 'King' Kirby - co-creator of much of the Marvel and DC Universes!

He created the artwork that played a critical role in the plans to rescue 6 Americans trapped in Iran and (minor spoiler: may have been what saved the lives of all seven people)

If you aren't familiar with the story, I encourage you to check out the film. For further reading, there's also an article on it at Comics Alliance. And here's the page about the operation on the CIA's website (though it doesn't mention Kirby by name).

It's interesting that the co-creator of Captain America was himself an American hero - even though it was classified for nearly 20 years.

Yup, Jack Kirby didn't only draw heroes....you could consider him one in real life.

Wow, I guess people are more absorbed in battle and rpg threads.

Well, this is just one of several stories I've seen recently about some of the remarkable behind-the-scenes stories of some of the 'founding fathers' of comicbookdom.

Wow did someone portray Kirby in Argo?

I read the Comics Alliance article a while back and it is certainly a very neat bit of history.

@thephantomstranger: Yeah. The role of Jack Kirby was played by Michael Parks (the guy who was the Texas Ranger in Tarantino's Kill Bill and

    Grindhouse).

Kirby also fought in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII. He was a Hero, a King, and the greatest creative genius to ever work in the comics medium.

    Suck it Stan Lee.

WOW I was thinking that while watching the film!
