If you did speak French, you might be able to help us unravel a little conundrum. See, a behind-the-scenes featurette has popped up on ironman.fr - - the French IRON MAN 2 site. The clip is news in itself, as it shows more footage of Tony Stark’s drag-racing visit to Monaco with commentary from Robert " Iron Man" Downey Jr., Jon " Happy Hogan" Favreau, Mickey " Whiplash" Rourke and Scarlett " Black Widow" Johannson about the making of the movie. Fairly standard EPK stuff. That’s not what’s raising some eyebrows.

What’s raising some eyebrows is a background character who could possibly be Chris “ Thor” Hemsworth making a cameo (and thanks to Cinemablend for the heads up).   See for yourself…

Now, G-Man is dubious about this. He doesn't believes it's another example of Marvel movies’ actor-sharing interconnectedness ( Nick Fury letting himself into Tony Stark’s condo in IRON MAN, Tony Stark grabbing a beer with Thunderbolt Ross in INCREDIBLE HULK, and so on), but I think there’s a possibility. Beyond the superficial visual similarities - - which can be easily distorted since the character’s out of focus - - the fact that the camera lingers on an ostensibly-peripheral character for a beat after the main character has left and then starts racking him into focus before an awkwardly-abrupt cut my draws attention.  Putting on my Sherlock Holmes-style deer slayer cap for a moment, I would suspect that Marvel might not want to reveal this cameo for the time being, so they’ve edited it down to keep the actual reveal for the actual release.

And perhaps, if I spoke French, the conversation between Tony and the Monaco official might actually be going like this...

“We have Thor in the cell next to you. Don’t look at him, whatever you do.”

“Alright, I won’t look at him.”

What do you think, Comic Vine gumshoes? Could that be Thor? Or have we all lost our minds? Have we stared long enough into the abyss that the abyss is now staring back at us?

If that's Thor it looks more like an Eric Masterson appearance rather than the God of Thunder, although I thought I remembered someone connected to the movie saying that there wasn't going to be an Eric Masterson, but if you've got Jane Foster in the movie, how do you not have Masterson?  Personally I wouldn't be surprised to see Hemsworth, or a blurry blonde haired figure in the back ground like that image right there pop up in IM2 to give all of the little fanboys and girls an early christmas present and get people speculating again, guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I agree with you, Tom, that due to the camera lingering and start of a rack, this cameo is intentional. It is not necessarily Thor, but he's about as likely a choice as you can speculate.
 
As we know, the Ultimate incarnation of Thor had notably gotten into trouble with authorities. It could be a light reference to that. Maybe this is how SHIELD pulls him in.

Looks to fat to be Thor.  Kinda reminds me of Sawyer from "Lost".

I don't think thats Thor.  If it was the cell would be a lot more secure as iron bars will not hold him.  It's much more likely he's directly connected to Iron Man.  Either a villian cameo, or Hawkeye would be my guess.  
 
Then again it could just be foreshadowing.  Whiplash has to break out of that jail at some point, maybe the guy in the cell is who breaks him out.

hey not sure if this has been translated already but they are talking about whiplash in the cell down the hall, and how they aren't even sure if he can speak english. tony asks where they are going, he says right down this way and then the police officer dude says how he hasnt spoken a word yet, "not even a sound, were not even sure if he speaks english"

100% not him! have seen this on a few sites now but no way it is him.  They wont be showing him in a movie that comes out before his movie.  and if it is an easter egg in the movie they wouldn't be showing it in a featurette they would be hiding it as much as possible.

I think he's just some random guy.... the scene is not a lead-up to this random guy, it's to a naked? Whiplash in an interrogation room. They're in Monaco - what would Thor be doing there?

Thats not Thor, plus what would they do to keep him there handcuff him.
