Instead, he created a suit of power armor to escape. Now vowing to protect a world he helped endanger, he became the Invincible Iron Man.

Still in his body after all this time? Was this the original reason he became iron-man? and did he always have that thing in his chest?

the shrapnel isn't there anymore...yes....no...he had it removed along with the shrapnel....the current arc reactor in his chest functions as a hard drive that stores and incalculable amount of data...meaning that Tony can never forget anything and can never stop learning...also meaning that in time he has the power to become the smartest man around

Wasn't it an artificial heart back in the late 90's? A heart that he had to keep charged.

See constantly learning and never forgetting is great and possibly he could be smarter than Reed but Reed is more than just smart, he's got a special kind of creativity and genius that Tony might not have. Plus Reed is unenhanced in the brains department which gives him the advantage in my book.
