    Iron Man

Character » Iron Man appears in 11209 issues.

Tony Stark was the arrogant son of wealthy, weapon manufacturer Howard Stark. Tony cared only about himself, but he would have a change of heart after he was kidnapped by terrorists and gravely injured. Pressured to create a weapon of mass destruction, Stark instead created a suit of armor powerful enough for him to escape. Tony used his vast resources and intellect to make the world a better place as The Invincible Iron Man. Stark's super hero identity led him to become a founding member of the Avengers.

Can Tony go back to his original armor rather than Bleeding Edge?

I haven't been caught up in a LONG while, but my friend told me that in one of the issues Tony asks to remove the Bleeding Edge out of his body - has this happened yet? I honestly don't like the Bleeding Edge armor even though I thought it was a pretty cool take on his armor. When Extremis came along, I was hoping that the writers wouldn't go beyond that but unfortunately they did - they turned Stark into a cyborg, but I want him to go back to the regular suiting up by his suitcase, lol. Ever since the Iron Man movies came out I began to be less interested in Iron Man because they were just crossing the line for me, and I want him to go back to the Batman/Bruce Wayne style where he's just a billionaire without any physical powers and what-not. I've recently seen the Marvel NOW! Iron Man covers, and it looks like his armor is just a re-design of his movie armor and I'm hoping someone can confirm whether or not he's removed Bleeding Edge yet, because I'm really bugged about it :/

@danhimself: what does that mean? Is it able to be controlled through his thoughts?

@danhimself: true and the vulnerability of not having the full bleeding edge armor is a step back in itself.

@Axis: agreed, but I like the movie version way better than the comic version. It seems so cool and it's not controlled by thoughts,or it doesn't come out of his bloodstream or any crap like that.

It's actually the iron man that I like

I know - I pretty much implied I liked the movie version better :P like I said, I want him to go back to the suitcase thing where it'd take him a few minutes just putting on the parts by himself, or even copy the films where he has JARVIS (or a robot) put the armor on him.

The bleeding edge is way better.

I see more Tony Stark as a cyborg than his old self.

The Bleeding Edge armor was the most logical step for Tony when it came to his Iron Man armor, with all of the threats he faces the idea of having an armor that he has access to 24/7 and which has the ability to give him the tools he needs at any given moment only makes him more ready to handle said threats.  Tony Stark is a futurist, he's always looking forward and never looking back, so the idea of him going backwards and using an old armor, out-of-date, is completely out-of-character. This is one of the reasons I have issues with his current series as all Gillen is doing is having him use armors he's used before simply with new colors, but nothing new.

I do remember when Tony only had a new armor (not specialty) every so often, and it was a significant upgrade along multiple fronts. Now its every dozen issues or less and they all look to do the same thing. Extremis and Bleeding Edge (ugly as sin) were a complete paradigm shift in the direction of the armor and capabilities, the newer suits are only good for selling new action figures.
