EXTREMIS" PART 1 (OF 6) It's the beginning of a new era for Iron Man as renowned scribe Warren Ellis joins forces with digital painter Adi Granov to redefine the armored avenger's world for the 21st century—a landscape of terrifying new technologies that threaten to overwhelm fragile mankind! What is Extremis, who has unleashed it, and what does its emergence portend for the world?
Beck, Mallen and Nilsen meet in an abandonned slaughterhouse, and Beck injects a willing Mallen in the back of the neck. He suffers a violent reaction, and as he begins to vomit a black kiquid, the other two men flee, sealing Mallen inside.
Two days later, Stark begrudgingly leaves his self-imposed isolation to take part in a documentary by John Pillinger, who asks him a series of slanted questions painting him as an arms dealer. Stark, aware of Pillinger's reputation, does his best to get his side of events across. Meanwhile at Futurepharm, Dr. Al Killian, feeling responsible for the recent theft of the Extremis virus from the company, types a confession before commiting suicide. Maya Hansen calls Stark about Killian's death to ask gor help. Elsewhere, Beck and Nilsen return to the slaughterhouse to find Mallen alive, but changed.
Note: This story arc updates Iron Man's origin to take place just before the Gulf War in the fight against Al-Qaeda. Here, Stark is wounded by hiw own weapon, activated by a stray shot during an ambush.

Great new era! |

After seeing the movie, I wanted to read the series. I decided to start with this issue after reading no Iron Man comics at all. I thought that the movie gave me enough knowledge to enjoy the book.
Boy was I right.
This story was amazing for first starters and for hard core long timers like most people reading this. I love this plot and I give the story 10 out of 10.
But most importantly and in my opinion the strongest side to this book is the artwork. Without the brilliant art, this story wouldn't have impacted me as much as it did.
Artwork should get a 10 out of 10 but in my opinion the art deserves a better rating than the plot. But seeing as I gave the highest rating to the plot, I'm going to have to settle with a simple 10 out of 10 for Granov's brilliant artwork.
This story is wonderful!
