    The Good

Who is Iron Fist? That might be an easy question for those that have read past stories and series focusing on Danny Rand. This new series catches you off guard. This is Danny Rand but not quite the Danny we're used to. To start off with, we do have a nice brief intro into Iron Fist's origin. Long time readers may be familiar with the story but seeing it here feels different. It's not the happy origin some heroes have. It's definitely not told in a way we'd expect from Danny.

The thing is, Danny's sort of going through some dark times. That isn't to say this is going to be Emo Iron Fist or anything. Iron Fist has usually be a bit of sunshine in the Marvel Universe but you have to look at everything he's gone through. Kaare Andrews gives the character more of an edge we're used and it looks good on Danny. It's not all action either as we get some pretty cool twists that will make you come back for more next issue.

Andrews handles the writing and art duties with ease. The colors match the vibe of the story and you really feel yourself pulled down into the story. It gets dark but not in a depressing way. And when the ninjas come into the story, hang on to your hats. I especially loved the beaten look of the flashback scenes. It was a nice little touch that really worked wonderfully.

Kaare Andrews is like an unstoppable force in handling so much of the comic. It should be noted that he does not do the lettering though. Joe Caramagna does his usual great job and you'll dig the moments he adds some oomph to the lettering at all the right moments.

    The Bad

Some may wonder why Danny's become so moody. There is a nice balance and it does give us some more insight into what makes his mind tick. But it might be a bit much for some.

It'll be interesting to see how the tone continues in future issues. This was very dark and red. There is a gritty feel but some may not want so much gritty when it comes to Iron Fist.

    The Verdict

Iron Fist is back like you've never seen before. It's some dark times for Danny Rand and that means we can expect some high octane action and adventure. Kaare Andrews cranks up the intensity while giving us a different take on the usual upbeat Iron Fist we've seen so many times. It's a great change of pace and gives us an enticing first issue. Most of the new All-New Marvel Now! relaunch series have been wonderful and Marvel has another hit on their hands. Iron Fist is a great character that has been underused for too long. This is a great time to get to know him all over again. You'll feel the excitement oozing from the pages.

I enjoyed the gritty tone of it. It's a nice change to how Immortal run was. I have no complaints what so ever. I have a feeling this will become my favorite series.

Iron Fist has always been pretty gritty in his own books, I mean in the first issue of Immortal Iron Fist he sets the over all tone of the book when he says the best thing an Immortal Weapon can hope for is to die fighting also there is Jeryn's mother getting kidnapped and having her fingers and ears cut off and then there's the tale of Orson Randall which gets really dark at times.

Anyway I loved this issue :)

I judged this book by its cover. An awesome, awesome cover, instantly one of my all time favorites.

Haven't cracked open the book yet, but I am definitely gonna give it a fair shake. Glad to hear a glowing review.

I still can't wrap my head around people disliking the art, it's fantastic.

Anyway, I'm glad my doubts about this series were unfounded because this was a pretty damn good start.

This was one of only two books I picked up today. I thought it was really good, action packed way to start the series. The stuff with Danny's father was crazy. Literally.

Danny Boy is surely no ladies man lol.

So is Danny suppose to be killed off by the end of this series and do he still have his power upgrade he received

in the New Avengers book many moons ago?

Really nice issue. I liked the flashback scenes a lot. Great art in those especially. The characterization was kind of weird though. I'm by no means an Iron Fist completist so perhaps he's been like this at other times but he seemed a little insecure, almost.

I have to say I liked his call-out to Steranko at the end. They've been doing a lot of these creator-meditations at the beginning or end of the comics, I guess to highlight their fairly impressive new creative teams in a lot of their books, but most of the other creators' meditations have been kind of cheesy or forgettable. This one was interesting.

Danny kind of reminded me of Ryan Gosling in Drive.

The story was fairly entertaining, and the art was really good. I just think Danny needs to mellow out some, he's a little too on the troubled side for me right now. Overall, it's a 3.5/5 for me. Looking forward to the next issue.

im not sure what that "what" was relating to. I heard somewhere Danny is going to die at the end of this run, don't ask where but that's not the question i want answered. Danny had a white and gold costume in new avengers comic during the heroic age start. im sure if he got a power boost since his costume colors changed or was it just merely a costume change?

@hushofthewind: Yea the Danny dieing thing dosn't make sense, I've never heard it anywhere and he's getting a tv show. The colour change was because Bendis was trying to make him the Immortal Weapon of Aggmotta and that got promptly ignored by pretty much everybody.

Finally got to read this. I have to admit, I wasn't to into it when I did a first skim through it, but when I slowed down and tried to soak in every page, the comic became surreal. Danny's ordeal rung home in my head, and the art was exquisite.
