Kyle's mom lies in a coma in the hospital. The doctors have no idea what the cause is. Guy Gardner is watching outside and upon hearing the news, heads to space.
Meanwhile, Kyle and Donna's reunion is cut short as one last Qwardian is left alive. They attempt to question why they were in this universe. He begins to tell them that they were on the run and refused to be slaves. Before he could reveal who their tormenter was, he dies.
Kyle and Donna begin to catch up but are soon attacked by Grayven, the son of Darkseid. Grayven tells Kyle that he has been behind recent events in his life including his mother being in the hospital.
As a battle wages on, the Monitors continue to watch. One of them feels he must get involved himself now that "two of them are together."
Back on Earth, Guy brought in Kilowog and Soranik to check on Kyle's mom. Soranik cannot figure out what is wrong with her. She says that if something doesn't change soon, she will die.
