This is the third part in the storyline CONQUEST. Recap: Invincible is half Viltrumite half human. Viltrumites are very strong. He has been appointed the preparer of Earth by the Viltrumite Empire after Invincible's father, Omni Man, left Earth (after beating his son to an inch of his life). Conquest is a Viltrumite gladiator of sorts that goes to worlds to see the progress of preparation for the Viltrumite takeover. He is currently testing Invincible's readiness. And he is stronger than Invincible.
Part 3 starts with Eve awaking from her coma that occured during the Invincible War in issue 60. The world is still in shambles and the news reports are trying to follow the fight between Conquest and Invincible. They are traveling so fast that no one can keep up. After accidently spilling the beans to her parents that Mark, her boyfriend, is Invincible (silly girlfriends), she immediately looks to engage in the battle.
Omni Boy, Invincible's half brother and Invincible team-up, and Cecil and Eve make appearances during the battle (he is still a douche). However the unfortunate news for Invincible is that there are no other Image heroes to help him. No Savage Dragon, Astounding Wolfman, Youngblood, or Guardians of the Globe.
But I am not going to blow wind up your skirt here, this issue does not end well. Conquest is an amazingly tough foe that during the issue and previous issue 62, puts the beat down over and over on Invincible. The cover alludes to Mark getting his arm broken, but Conquest actually breaks his leg. Who knew that Invincible could have a limb broken. But if you want to know the rest pick up the issue!
The Aftermath of the Invincible War so far appears much worse for Invincible. His world is in shambles and in Kirkman-like style, the ramifications will not be able to be reversed. Part 4 of Conquest will wrap up the Conquest storyline in issue 64. This issue will continue to change and shape the future of Invincible.
Note: This issue is pretty bloody and violent. Conquest is pretty hardcore.
Overall a 5 out of 5, but one thing I am looking forward to is more dialouge. Ottley's art is really impressive, continually, but the fight scenes take up a lot of the pages. The reality is that this fight is speaking louder than words could, but the issue just flies by. I suggest reading the issue twice because it is that good and quick.
