Betrayed and stranded, but not down!
Invincible is stranded on a parallel world; no thanks to power crazed Rex! Now, on a world that is governed by an evil version of himself, Invincible must do all he can to survive and build a portal back to his own wold.
The Good
This has been one of the best issues before the next major story arc! I mean, wow! Robert Kirkman really outdid himself with this one. The entire story was just perfect, you couldn't ask for anything more from this issue!
I think what helped this issue; was the subtle time lapses. Having a set number of pages to tell a story, using time lapses are advised. However, if done incorrectly it can take away from the story and make readers question what has happened in that small jump through time. Thankfully, Kirkman did a good job with the time lapses. He had one set plot point -- which was to build a portal, and with the time lapses it showed how much Invincible and parallel dimension Rex got along with one another and building the portal. It allowed some very interesting character development between the two heroes and how subtle changes would've made them evil like their counterparts.
Overall it was a spectacular issue filled with that usual Kirkman awesomeness! The time lapses also contributed to making this issue feel longer than what it actually was. After reading this issue you'll understand what I mean.
Ryan Ottley's artwork, along with colors and inks (John Rauch and Cliff Rathburn), are just fantastic! Their skills on the artwork really are the best in the comic book business. One of the reasons why INVINCIBLE is one of THE BEST superhero comic book titles out there!
