    The Invaders Darkest Secret

    The Story:

The Invaders darkest secret from their past catches up with them.

    My Thoughts:

This is a five issue mini-series that reunites the Invaders for another adventure. Christos Gage is the writer who takes these characters to a point in their past they all wanted to forget as he exposes their biggest and darkest secret. I thought it was a pretty fun and exciting way to reunite the team again for all comic fans. So many people grew up with these characters as some of their favorites and I can only imagine the experience they had back then while following their adventures. It must be even more incredible for them to see them once again in this day and age.

The story centers around a secret the Invaders wished to forget. As it catches up with them, they're forced to reassemble once again to face this threat that once again threatens innocent lives. The story is unpredictable and entertaining throughout its entirety. Christos Gage does a good job digging deeper into the past of these characters and hits on emotional levels that include real life issues and topics such as war, death and right and wrong. In terms of continuity, this takes place shortly after the beginning of the Heroic Age but is an easily accessible story to jump right into and follow.

The art is by Caio Reis whose style I enjoyed a lot. I'd say about 90% of the artwork is stunningly gorgeous while the other 10% feels a little rushed and choppy. There certainly are some dazzling and beautiful panels that capture the World War II time period as well as the present day. The action scenes were phenomenal. The coloring was superb. I really liked how some of the landscape panels had a painted effect to them. The cover gallery at the end was a nice addition to the book with the exception of Howard Chaykin's horrid contribution. Alex Ross's covers really stand out compared to the other artists.

I'd definitely recommend picking this up especially if you're a fan of the Invaders. It's a nice way for long time fans to enjoy their favorite characters once again and a chance for newer fans to become aquatinted with them. This oversized hardcover will make a fine addition to any comic collectors collection and is well worth the money.

    Rating: 4.5/5
