Infinity Gauntlet

Infinity Gauntlet is a comic book story arc that first appeared in Infinity Gauntlet #1

Death resurrects Thanos who acquires the six infinity gems and kills half the life in the universe in her honor with the Infinity Gauntlet. Adam Warlock leads Earth's greatest heroes against Thanos.

The Infinity Gauntlet is a six issue miniseries written by Jim Starlin, pencilled by George Perez and inked by Ron Lim published in 1991.

Mistress Death is upset that the balance between life and death has recently not been in her favor. Her solution is to give her ardent follower, Thanos, a chance at rebirth setting him forth with a mission of killing half the life in the universe. Despite his powers, Thanos realizes his mission is near impossible. Remembering the Infinity Gems that were instrumental in his death, he peered into the Infinity Well to discover their secrets. He divines the true nature of the gems, and their current owners.

The Thanos Quest

Thanos discovers that the Infinity Gems are currently in possession of the Elders of the Universe with the Soul Gem in possession of the In-Betweener. With cunning, Thanos is able to obtain possession of the gems. He then places the gems on the Infinity Gauntlet, and becomes the most powerful being in the universe.

The Infinity Gauntlet

Thanos immediately fulfills his objective and kills half of all life in the universe. He also brings a tortured Nebula (who alleges to be his granddaughter) as a sacrifice to Death. But because Thanos is so powerful, becoming superior to Death in every facet, Thanos' hope of being treated as an equal escapes his grasp. He gleans from Death that they are not equal, and Death becomes subservient to him. This infuriates Thanos who doesn't want Death as a slave but as a lover. In an attempt to make Death jealous, he creates a mate, Terraxia.

On earth, the heroes are informed by the Silver Surfer as to the reason for the monumental genocide. All of Marvel's mightiest heroes band together to try to defeat Thanos and save the universe. Despite previous conflicts with the Mad Titan, Thanos still remains a mystery. Adam Warlock, one of Thanos' most persistent foes, is asked to lead the forces.

Knowing full well the impossible odds, Adam Warlock and Silver Surfer attempt cosmic diplomacy in the hopes of thwarting Thanos. The two heroes meet up with Epoch and her cosmic champion Quasar and a cosmic summit of the great cosmic powers begins. It includes Eternity, the Watcher Uatu, Kronos, Lord Chaos, Master Order, the Celestials, Galactus, Stranger, Love and Hate and the Living Tribunal. In the summit Eternity tries to convince the Living Tribunal to intervene. The Living Tribunal refuses, in since he believes that if Thanos were to replace Eternity it would still be within the process in natural selection. After seeing this, Adam Warlock persuades the Cosmic powers to aid them in stopping Thanos.

Thanos is fully aware of the coming conflict. Mephisto arrives and advises Thanos to remove his omniscience to make the fight somewhat fair in the hopes of impressing Death. Despite the machinations of Mephisto, the battle is grueling and over quickly for the heroes. Thanos dispatched the heroes with ease. Some examples of the carnage include Terraxia murdering Spider-Man and decapitating Iron Man. The X-men fared no better, as Wolverine had his adamantium skeleton turned to spongy rubber and Cyclops had his head trapped in a cube, stopping his optic blasts and suffocating him. Cosmic heroes like Nova was turned into small cubes, and with Quasar, Thanos exploded the Quantum Bands upon his wrists and then disintegrated him. Fearsome foes like Thor were turned to glass. The last man standing was Captain America, who made his last stand. Absent from the battle and light years away were the Silver Surfer and Adam Warlock, who knew and fully expected the frontal assault to fail. Key to the real strategy was Mephisto's involvement. After shattering Captain America's shield, Thanos raised his fist to deliver the final blow. This was the cue for Adam Warlock's true plan to go into effect as Surfer rushed in to steal the gauntlet. This gambit failed, and Thanos realized how close he was to failure himself. He once again reinstated his omniscience, and became all-powerful, all-knowing once again.

It was then that the Cosmic forces themselves attacked. The mighty forces, each near-omnipotent on their own, were no match for the omnipotence the Infinity Gauntlet bestowed on Thanos. Eternity and Thanos have final epic battle where Thanos perseveres, becoming the embodiment of this universes reality. Thanos sheds his mortal form and takes his place Eternity's replacement. Nebula takes this opportunity to take the gauntlet from the former body of Thanos. Thanos realizes his error and joins with the remaining heroes and cosmic forces to defeat the now omnipotent Nebula. Their relentless attack on the confused Gauntlet wielder allows Adam Warlock to enter the Soul Gem, a gem he is intimately attached to. From within the Soul Gem he links with the other Infinity Gems and causes the gems to feedback on Nebula, causing her to remove it.

Adam Warlock then becomes wielder of the Gauntlet. In an attempt to be a "perfect" god, Warlock's first use of the power was to expel from his soul the Good and Evil. This was the first step to his reign as God. But before he can begin, the Living Tribunal appears and judges Warlock too unstable and therefore unfit to wield the power. He didn't appear previously because he knew that Thanos wouldn't upset the delicate balance of the universe. Without morals or vices, with his sole focus of being a god being undermined, Warlock violently reacts to the Living Tribunals judgement. The Living Tribunal dismisses Warlock's uses of the Gauntlet and deems that they would no longer be able to function together, preventing anyone from achieving omnipotence through possession of the gems. The gems seperate, and Adam Warlock forms Infinity Watch to safeguard the powerful and dangerous Infinity Gems. Thanos retreats to a life of farming to reflect on his life, death, and brush with godhood.

Galactus prepares for fight with Thanos. He is hungry and tells Nova to find him a suitable planet and quickly.

Nova discovers a planet suitable for her master but remembers what the Silver Surfer had showed her recently. With Nova's help they are able to reach incredible speeds, speeds that Nova has never traveled at. He brings her to a planet similar to the one she has found for Galactus. Both planets have primitive life. Surfer asks her if she would bring Galactus to this planet. She tells him she would and that Galactus' hunger and place in the universe is more important than primitive lifeforms.

He takes her into a cave and shows her something she has seen before. She realizes the Surfer has brought her back in time and this place is really a primitive Earth. He shows her that life, although appearing insignificant, can one day evolve into something much greater and that giving an inhabitied world to Galactus is genocide.

He takes her back to the planet and leaves her behind. Since no other planet is available, she still chooses this world for Galactus. She reminds Galactus that the world is inhabitied, which is no concern for him. He tells her that even if there was time to evacuate the inhabitants he would not allow it. He proceeds to consume the planets energy.

Nova wonders if she may ever be able to make this decision again.

Thanos is contemplating what is to be done now that he has the power of god. He finds that the answer is quite simple - anything he wants.

Silver Surfer has crah landed in the home of Doctor Strange. He tells him the events that have transpired and hopes that it is not too late.

Thanos goes to Death to seek her love and approval. With every attempt, she shows her disdain and turns her back to him. He cannot understand why she will not return his love. He creates a giant shrine to her honor, with two chairs for them to sit in an rule all of the universe. Still, she remains uninterested.

He resurrects Nebula, creating a half alive half dead version of her in another attempt for Death's affection. She still is unimpressed. He then discovers that maybe she is spurned that he has not fulfilled his vow to destroy half the population of the universe. With one snap of his fingers, he makes it so.

All over the universe half the life on any given planet disappears, human and animal alike. This is noticed widely by Spider-Man, Captain America, Hulk and SHIELD on Earth as well as by Empress S'byll of the Kree Empire and by the Eternals on Titan. Some close to them have disappeared as well, such as Sersi, Hawkeye, Mentor and Wong.

Silver Surfer senses all this death and to him it is just too much to bear.

Drax and Firelord are on Titan and they are trying to find out why people are disappearing. The Mentor has disappeared and now so has Starfox. Neither Drax nor Firelord know how to use a computer and recruit a young boy whose parents have disappeared.

They travel to ISAAC, Titan's all knowing computer. Inside, they view a video captured of the Surfer battling Thanos on the Moon. Firelord believes Thanos to be killed but Drax disagrees and finally remembers about the Infinity Gauntlet. Firelord believes Drax to be a moron who doesn't know what he is talking about and they become angry with each other.

Drax attacks Firelord and they fight for a bit before Drax comes to his senses. He remembers that he wasn't always so dumb and that when he came back to life his brain wasn't the same. Firelord finally understands and they head off together for Earth to find the Surfer.

On the way, they are mystically transported to Avengers Mansion by Doctor Strange. There, all of Earth's heroes are gathering to take on Thanos and his threat to the universe.

Ael-Dan and Dar-Benn plan to assasinate Clumsy Foulup, the unlikely emperor of the Kree Empire.  The Silver Surfer enters and says that he wishes to atone for the events of the Second Kree-Skrull War. He agrees that he will assassinate Clumsy. The Kree plan to destroy him when he has done his task.

During an announcement, Clumsy is attacked by the Surfer, who vaporizes him. The Kree then attack the Silver Surfer and destroy him. All of this is captured on film and shown to the entire world. Ael-Dan and Dar-Benn plan to rule the empire side by side to appise both the blue and pink Kree. They make an announcement to the people and declare martial law.

Every thing has gone according to their plan. They take the remaining pieces of the Surfer and take them to a lab. It is revealed that the Surfer was really a robot and that it worked perfectly. To cover their tracks they kill the scientist who built him and destroy the lab.

While the Avengers are cleaning up the mess from half the population disappearing, Epoch contacts Quasar the Cosmic Guardian and informs him he is needed. Epoch is with an entity that proves to be Adam Warlock.

Doctor Strange is then contacted by that same entity and says he must lead the forces against Thanos. He opens his soul for Doctor Strange to see that he is no enemy. Meanwhile, Doctor Doom wishes for answers to what is happening. He attacks Strange's mansion and assaults Strange and the Silver Surfer. But the Surfer is in no shape to fight after his battle with Thanos. But Adam Warlock appears and tells them he has all the answers they need.

Back with Death, it seems Starfox was taken by Thanos for a 'family reunion.' Starfox tries to use his power to manipulate Thanos but it does not work and Thanos removes his mouth. He tortures them to impress Mistress Death but even this does not work. In anger, Thanos creates an incredible shockwave across the universe.

On Asgard, Odin has become aware of the situation. He has gathered all the deities to discuss the problem. They all band together. They are trapped in Asgard after Thanos' shockwave destroyed the exit.

The shockwave cause much damage to Earth. The western coast of the United States falls into the ocean and a massive tsunami hits the east coast. Across the world, the landscape had changed and many places simply did not exist any longer such as Japan. Earth's heroes try to assess the situation and get a plan into action.

While Adam Warlock discusses his plans with the world's heroes, the Surfer decides to get away a little bit. The city is in a state of destruction. He flies to Central Park to relax and enjoy nature. He soon finds that a tiger oo is on the loose. He goes to examine where the animal came from and finds the Central Park Zoo.

He soon find that the animals are being released by the Rhino. He tells him to stop and that it is dangerous to let them loose. Rhino just want them to be free before the world ends and possibly create a little chaos.

They begin to battle and soon it is revealed that Rhino is no physical match for the Surfer. They stop fighting when they hear a gunshot.

They find a local police officer has shot the tiger. Rhino is very sad about this and realizes that it is all his fault. Surfer uses his Power Cosmic to revive the tiger. He and the Surfer reconcile and put all the animals back in their cages. Surfer tells him he hopes their next meeting will be pleasant but the Rhino says he doubts it.

Back at Avenger's Mansion the Surfer runs into the Hulk, who is all of the sudden interested in defeating Thanos.

Fresh off his defeat of the Cosmic Assassin, Quasar returns to Four Freedoms Plaza to check in with his friends. He makes it clear to Kayla that he would like to persue a relationship with her (finally getting back to their conversation in #19), Moondragon interupts saying that Kayla isn’t worthy of a relationship with the universe’s most cosmic man, and that Moondragon herself has all the prerequistes to be the ideal woman for him. Quasar disagrees, he says relationships and love are about feelings, not ideals or prerequistes. Moondragon angerly leaves and goes in search of allies to help her gain Quasar’s affections.

The cosmically empowered Her, notes Moondragon’s starship, but pays it no heed. She goes in search of her ideal mate as well.

Quasar returns one last time to the Eonverse to pay his last respcts to his fallen mentor. He says a few words of regret for its passing, but is interupted when he detects energy readings within the Eonverse, noting he’s not along, he goes to investigate.

Finding a starship that more resembles a cathedral than a ship, he is greeted by what appears to be an alien cadre of priest. They claim they have arrived to mourn the loss of Eon. Quasar can detect no weapons aboard the ship and they seem to be forthright so Quasar allows them to carry out their ritual.

Their representive, Fath, tells Quasar that the funeral will begin in 3.14 days, so Quasar goes to take care of his personal life, helps the Avengers, and continues repairs upon his office inflicted by the Presence.

He returns to the funeral to find an image of a tree-like creature that has many faces. Quasar surmized that this is Eon’s true form.

Quasar is directed to sit and during the eulogy find that he is more moved by fath’s word about Eon than he was over the priet’s words at his father’s funeral (QUASAR #21). It is then that Thanos appears and disrupts the proceedings. Quasar tells him to leave, and it devolves into a fight. Despite that Thanos possesses the Infinity Guantlet he has no interest in killing Quasar (not yet, anyway), so, Quasar holds his own and directs 100 megaton blast right between Thanos’ ears.

Unbelieveably, Thanos reforms and says he: ‘has other more interesting enemies to fight’, with that Thanos grows four entities from Eon’s dead form. They are: The Stygian Starbender, Eon’s first Protector; former Protector, Ree of the long dead Archepeians; former Protector Trantra of the Trill, Marvel Boy, the first human to wear the Quantum-Bands. They all have fully functioning replicas of the Quantum-Bands and have all been in instilled with the need to kill Quasar, the last one surviving will be Thanos’ Protector of the Universe until the end of time.

Earth's heroes have gathered and it is nearly time to begin their attack on Thanos. Doom tries to say that he should lead them but they refuse. Silver Surfer and Adam Warlock take off to another location to start the plan.

They meet with Quasar and Epoch who have gathered some of the most powerful entities in the universe. Living Tribunal states that he will no cosmic crime is being committed and he will not aide them. Galactus objects to being lead by a mortal but finally agrees to go along with the plan. The Watcher also lets it be known that he will not participate.

Adam Warlock and the Surfer return to lead the attack. Warlock takes Wolverine and Hulk to the side and reminds them that they are important because the goal is to kill Thanos, and they will not hold back on him.

Thanos can still not get Death to fall in love with him so to spite her he creates the object of his affection, Terraxia. He claims she will be the perfect match for him and he no longer needs Death, who leaves when this happens.

Doctor Strange casts a spell allowing everyone to breathe in space and uses the Eye of Agamatto to transport them to Thanos. Silver Surfer and Adam Warlock have plans of their own. He explains that most of them will not survive and they are mearly a diversion.

The Silver Surfer is tired of waiting for action and wishes to assist Earth's heroes. Adam Warlock tells him to meditate on the upcoming task at hand.

Adam tells him it is time to attack but he has miscalculated. All of their allies have been destroyed by Thanos. Warlock's despair overcomes him and Thanos destroys him, leaving only the Silver Surfer to stop him. But Thanos' power is too great. He makes the Surfer his slave and takes away his Power Cosmic. He then destroys Mephisto, tired of his advice.

Thanos has won the affections of Mistress Death and now it is her that worships him. He created his own throne world called Necronos with one billion inhabitants who all wait in line to be killed and sent to Death's realm. He created it as a holy temple to honor Death herself.

He tells the Surer that as his slave he will write the story of Thanos for all eternity to read of.

With Death and the Surfer at his side, Thanos rules all of the universe. He forces the Surfer to begin writing the story of Thanos, a bible for all the universe.

With the power of the Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos has killed all of Earth's heroes and subjugated the universe's empires - the Kree, the Skrulls and the Shi'ar. He has turned Earth into a hellish place. Zenn-La has been totally destroyed.

The Surfer finally refuses to do this for Thanos and rebels. Thanos toys with the Surfer but while Thanos is paying attention to Death he sneaks away. He attempts to kill himself rather than be a servant. This proves to work out the way the Surfer intended, causing Thanos to revive him and his Power Cosmic.

He begins to battle Thanos until the end but is awakened by Adam Warlock. The Surfer has been planning what he must do and this has all been a fantasy of what the Surfer thinks will happen. Back in reality, the Surfer and Adam Warlock make their move.

Silver Surfer is teleported during fight with Thanos. He appears next to a gate to Virtual Reality's tour in the realm of perception.

The Surfer wishes to leave but Virtual Reality will not allow it until he is finished with him. The Surfer realizes that it was Thanos that must have sent him here but Reality says that this matters not and everyone comes to him at some time.

The tour shows Surfer all the events that he focuses on in his life. His thoughts dwell to his mothers suicide, his poor treatment of Shalla Bal, his father's suicide, his becoming a Herald of Galactus and leaving her behind, the fact that he turns his back to all those that care for him and the lost love of Mantis and Nova.

He also thinks of Thanos and the defeats he has had at his hands. Virtual Reality tells him there is much that the Surfer will not admit to himself and that in his heart he expects nothing of himself. The tour is thus ended.

Elsewhere, the body of Reptyl floating through space is reanimated and transformed into a large winged monster.

Silver Surfer travels through Virtual Reality's maze in which he meets Denial, Doubt and Guilt in the form of his old allies, the Defenders. The represent the sum of all of the Surfer's fear. They tell him that he is shackled to these emotions forever and the Surfer then finds himself tethered to the floor in chains.

In order for him to escape, Virtual Reality tells him he must sever the links that bind him. He must search himself for the answer.

He is then met by his mother. She tells him her death was not his fault and he should stop blaming himself. She unlocks one of his shackles. He is next met by his father. Surfer also believes it his fault that his father also committed suicide. His father tells him that it was not the Surfer's fault but his own. Jartran was never able to forgive himself. He unlocks one of the shackles.

The Surfer is then greeted by Shall Bal. Surfer has much guilt that he pushed her away from him and ran to the stars. She forgives him and tells him she will be waiting when he is ready. She unlocks a shackle. The next to visit him are Nova and Mantis. They tell him they do not hold him responsible for his actions because he is emotionally immature. Mantis tells the Surfer that it is not his fault she is gone. They unlock a shackle.

But one shackle remains and there will be no more visitors. He realizes the only person that has not given him his forgiveness is himself. He reaches inside himself to retrieve the final key. He unlocks himself and finds himself in the Hall of Absolutes.

Virtual Reality tells him that he will no longer see things in black and white. Surfer wants to know if this place truly exists but Reality tells him that it does not matter if it does or not and the Surfer has obtained valuable knowledge and is now better prepared to complete the task at hand, defeating Thanos.

He is instantly transported to the place he was before, waiting with Adam Warlock to make their move on Thanos.

Earth's heroes have descended upon Thanos is a attempt to defeat his maniacal plots. They are simply no match for Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet. Mephisto points out that Adam Warlock and Silver Surfer are not engaging in the battle.

Thanos realizes, with the manipulation of Mephisto, that he cannot impress Death with the full abilities of the gauntlet. He must show courage in the face of his enemies. He turns off all the gems power except the Power Gem to even the playing field. He still has limitless power just no cosmic awareness.

Even in the limited state he has placed himself in Earth's heroes are no match for him but have a better chance. The might of Hulk and Drax are still not enough. Under Captain America's leadership they seem to have some hope.

The Surfer is growing impatient. Warlock has not yet revealed his plans for the Surfer, so that Thanos cannot steal those plans from his mind.

Thanos dispatches of She Hulk and Namor by encasing them in stone. He blasts Doctor Doom, whose only goal is to get the Infinity Gauntlet for himself. Thunderstrike puts up a challenge for Thanos but it's still not enough. Wolverine gets the drop on Thanos and buries his claws into Thanos' chest, but even this proves not to phase him. One by one they all fall to Thanos. Thunderstrike is turned into glass and broken, Cyclops is suffocated and he turns Nova into toy blocks. Iron Man is killed by Terraxia. Quasar is defeated under Thanos' power.

The final combatant is Captain America who still stands to fight. Thanos shatteres his shield in one blow. As he goes to finish him off, Warlock and the Surfer make their move. But Thanos is aware of them and the Surfer cannot manage to take the gauntlet from him.

Now the big guns arrive to battle, the cosmic entities of the universe.

Thanos is under attack by several of the most powerful forces in the universe. The heavens shake with power. Billions die just for the battle to take place. It creates an inter-dimension distortion allowing Annihilus and his forces to invade Earth. But right now, this is the least of the universe's troubles.

One by one, Thanos defeats the entities Chronos, Master Order and Lord Chaos, Galactus, Stranger, Epoch, Mistress Love and Master Hate. Meohisto sees this as an oppurtunity and tries to take the gauntlet from Thanos but fails. Thanos is soon disheartened in the fact that Death has joined the assault against him. He entraps all the entities when he is faced with Eternity.

The battle turns out to be the war for control of this reality. Thanos ends up the victor, turning into a cosmic being not unlike Eternity. But this leaves his physical form temporarily unprotected. Nebula takes the Infinity Gauntlet for herself.

Doctor Strange, Warlock and Silver Surfer regroup on Earth. They devise a new plan.

Now it is Nebula who possesses the greatest power in all the universe, and she is very disoriented by her recent ordeals. She seeks revenge and transports Thanos and Terraxia into space, where Terraxia dies because Thanos had not thought to make her be able to breath in space. He is then transported by Warlock to Earth so they can speak.

In private, Warlock reveals that while in the soul gem he was able to learn everything about Thanos including his thoughts, dreams and secrets. He tells him that he always seeks ultimate power but does not believe he deserves it and subconsciously supplied his own defeat whenever he achieved it. Thanos agrees to help retrieve the gauntlet from Nebula.

Doctor Stange has managed to gather some of the heroes who were sent to other realms by Thanos. They all attack Nebula, but even with her lack of experience the gems give her incredible power.

Nebula has got Infinity Gauntlet and she has to be stopped. Doctor Strange has a plan how to do it, but fight between Silver Surfer and Thanos could foil this attempt. So Doctor Strange decides to transport Surfer and Thanos to a mystic plain, where they can settle this.

Doctor Strange has set the rules for this battle and they are without their fantastic powers. They are supplied horses and weapons and begin a medieval battle with each other. They vent their hatred upon each other. When Dr. Strange tries to remove them from the battle, the Surfer resists. They all fear he will kill Thanos, who is instrumental to stopping Nebula.

Surfer wins and prepares to kill Thanos, who begs him to do it. The Surfer realizes that the universe is more important than his retribution and allows Thanos to live. He asks for Thanos' surrender.

But Thanos does not surrender and attacks the Surfer again. After beating him, the Surfer yields and loses the battle. They are brought back to Strange's mansion, Thanos victorious.

Thanos and the remaining heroes face off against Nebula who now has possession of the Infinity Gauntlet. She uses the power she now has to transform the universe back to the way it was twenty four hours ago. All of Thanos' death and destruction has been undone. Some of those returning to life have no recollection of the events that have transpired, some feel like something is not right and others remember the events in full detail. She herself is transformed back into the horrible creature Thanos turned her into.

But as Warlock reahes for the gaunlet she regains her power. The cosmic beings unleash their fury upon her. Warlock has a plan now that the gauntlet is in less experienced hands. He and the Silver Surfer return to the Soul World where Warlock becomes at one with the universe of the soul gem.

Nebula manages to turn the cosmic beings into stone. Warlock manages to reach out to the other gems and the gauntlet separates from Nebula. It is now an all out battle to retrieve the fallen gauntlet and Earth's heroes stop Thanos from obtaining it again. The guantlet comes into the hands of Adam Warlock.

Rather than face imprisonment, Thanos chooses to blow himself up with a thermal nuclear device. Adam Warlock claims himself the true possessor of the Infinity Gems and that he will be a just god. He transports himself, Gamora and Pip to two months in the future on a unnamed planet. They go to visit Thanos, who claims that three failures at such a scope are enough for him and he will live out a quiet life to reflect on the lessons of the past.

As a parting gift, unbeknownst to Quasar, Thanos has opened all the portals from the Eonverse to the universe and turned Eon’s immense body inside-out. This has caused Eon’s body to come pouring out of each of the portals, including the one in Four Freedoms Plaza.

Inside the Eonverse, Quasar is trying to converse with the previous wearers of the Quantum Bands (Stygian Starbender, Ree, Trantra, and Marvel Boy), but they are hungry for blood. Quasar manages to down Marvel Boy and In a brief exchange of Quantum-constructs, Quasar manages to hold his own, but realizes he’s far too outnumbered.

He flies off to put some distance between himself and the other Quantum-banders, which the three remaining consider quite cowardly.

Meanwhile, Her discovers that her genetic twin is still alive, she finds him, but he (being Adam Warlock) is deeply embroiled in the Infinity Guantlet affair and has no time for mating at the moment. He tells her to join the effort or begone. Elsewhere many of New York’s heroes (Sleepwaler, Darkhawk, the Squadron Supreme… etc…) are attempting to save inncent bystanders from the green flesh that has erupted from the FF headquarters.

Back in the Eonverse, Quasar attempts a “total energy drain” but is caught by surprise when they slam a pair of Quantum-slabs the size of trucks in an attempt to crush him. They briefly discuss which of them will win the honor of being the last Protector. Trapped, Quasar briefly considers giving up, but he overcomes it and manages to escape after hearing a call for help that sounds a great deal like Eon.

He Quantum-Jumps into the Quantum-Zone andwaits for them. He figures that if the ‘background noise” of the Q-Zone can cover what he is attempting then he stands a chance. He begins concentrating on his connection with all fourteen gems on the bands and opens them to their fullest. The three remaining Banders come and he surprises them by overloading their Quantum-Bands with too much power. They get disintegrated and Quasar returns to the Eonverse.

There, Quasar begins to notice how sparse the Eonverse is of Eon’s body and again hears the call for help. He is however attacked from behind by a recovered Marvel Boy. Quasar quickly makes clear that Marvel Boy is not in the same league with a Protector of the Universe by swatting Marvel Boy away.

Quasar finds and plugs-up the portal to Earth and quickly finds where the calls for help are emanating from. He finds an egg-like object. From this egg comes a small Eon-like entity. Calling herself Epoch, she tells Quasar that she is Eon’s daughter and successor as the guardian of all life in the universe. She thanks Quasar for saving her life and shows him a message from Eon which says that Eon considers Quasar its greatest champion.
