Origin

The Infinity Gauntlet is a cosmic artifact that grants the wearer complete mastery over the Infinity Gems.

Infinity Gauntlet

Mistress Death gives Thanos the Infinity Gauntlet because she realizes that there are more people alive today than have ever died before. She brings him back from the dead and gives him the Gauntlet with the agreement that he do something about all the living today. Thanos does something about it, and all of Marvel's mightiest superheroes that are left go after Thanos to try to take him down. This begins the Infinity Gauntlet story arc. But they need someone who knows Thanos like no one else does, not even Thanos himself.

Adam Warlock steps in to try to help Earth and it's heroes. Thanos loses the gauntlet to Nebula and she loses it to Adam. Adam takes the Gauntlet and becomes a god. In order to make himself a noble god he subconciously expels all good and evil from his body creating the Magus and the Goddess. Shortly after he gains the power of the Gauntlet the Living Tribunal shows up and forces Adam to give up his power and Eternity declares that the gems can never be used together again. The gems are split up among Warlock and his closest companions, Moondragon, Drax, Pip, Gamora, and secretly giving the last one to Thanos. This group minus Thanos became the Infinity Watch.

Infinity War

During Infinity War the Magus travels across dimensions and collects all of their cosmic cubes in order to make a machine that can help him take the Infinity Gauntlet. Magus forces Eternity into a coma like state and creates warped dooplegangers of every hero on Earth with the clone of Thanos working as his right hand man.

With no other choice Earth's mightiest heroes team up with Thanos and Galactus to take him down. Adam takes back all of the gems and tries to use the Gauntlet to no avail and they realize that the ruling from Eternity was still in affect. Galactus travels to speak with Eternity and the Living Tribunal to have the ruling on the use of the Gauntlet reversed, but Eternity is the only entity that can reverse the decree and he is still in a coma. Galactus sets about fixing him with the help of Gamora. While Eternity is being fixed Magus kidnaps Adam and the Infinity Gauntlet and holds them prisoner in his citadel. Eternity is brought out of his coma just long enough to reverse his ruling and the Gauntlet is functional once more.

Magus begins adjusting to his new power and unleashes all of his dooplegangers against Earth's heroes. Magus then freezes everyone and teleports them into his citadel to become his trophies but he is then ambushed by Thanos who had been fighting his doppleganger in another part of the citadel. Thanos reveals that he still possesses the reality gem and that the Gauntlet is incomplete. Adam breaks free of his restraints and grabs onto the Gauntlet and because of his greater knowledge of how to use the Gauntlet he is able to overpower Magus and absorb him back into his body. Eternity and Infinity appear and say that no matter what the circumstances the gems will never work in unison ever again. The gems are divided up once again among the Infinity Watch.
