The demons of Limbo invades Earth. Edit

News

When the young mutant hero Magik became ruler of the dimension of Limbo, one of its demon-sorcerers, N'astirh, began to covet the idea of not only controlling Limbo, but of become master of Earth as well.

He gathered demonic agents in defiance of Limbo’s new ruler, S’ym, and finally launched his grand scheme. N'astirh orchestrated a kidnapping of 13 babies of Earth in hopes to sacrifice them in a ritual known as Inferno, which would have given him control over both dimensions. Previously, N'astirh had also contacted the woman known as Madelyne Pryor, sensing her power as a clone of Phoenix (Jean Grey) and helped her release her power in what would eventually make her the Goblin Queen.

First, N’astirh opened a gateway between Earth and Limbo through which his demon horde could travel, using the 13 children's souls as energy for the pentagram-shaped nexus. Inferno had begun, and New York began to feel its effects. The weather turned hot, unearthly hot, and people began to succumb to their more evil desires. Even inanimate objects began to be effected, coming to life and acting in malicious, evil ways.

N’astirh was ultimately defeated by the New Mutants and Magik, who rejected her dark heritage and reverted to her innocent six-year old self. They were also helped by the X-Terminators, a team of mutant teenagers.

During the event, Madelyne Pryor, as the Goblin Queen, had taken the opportunity to confront the X-Men and the original X-Factor, and she even managed to make N’astirh her servant, for a time. However, she was finally defeated when the teams joined forces against her.

Recently a demonic horde lead by N'astirh has invaded New York. Due to the dimensional tear, an usual type of energy is let loose upon New York, affecting people in a variety of ways. The X-Teams are handling this problem, so don't worry about that.

Years ago (in Marvel time) Harry Osborn, under the influence of LSD discovered that his father had killed Gwen Stacy, Peter's then-girlfriend, and subsequently died during a battle with Spider-Man in a back alley. He changed his father's clothes to conceal his dual identity from the police, discovered Peter was Spider-Man, and eventually became the second Green Goblin to avenge his father's death. He attempted to kill some of their closest friends before he was stopped and sent to a mental institution. Eventually he developed partial amnesia, blocking out his brief career as a costumed criminal and Peter's secret identity. He later married Liz Allen and had a son named Normie (told you it was a long time).

Recently (again) the second Hobgoblin has attacked Harry at his house demanding he turn "it" over to him. Harry bought some time by telling him "it" was in the downtown office of Osborn Chemical, having no idea what he was talking about. Hobgoblin promised to return if he was lying.

The combination of the dimensional energy and the stress brought on by the Hobgoblin's attacks have begun to restore Harry's memories of his time as the second Green Goblin. As of this point, Harry remembers the location of some spare Goblin equipment he had hidden in his attic.

Plot

Harry's memories of his stint as the second Green Goblin come flooding back as he suits up. He knows he and his family are living on borrowed time until the Hobgoblin discovers his ruse. Unwilling to rely on anyone's help, Harry hops on the glider and leaves for Osborn Chemical to confront the Hobgoblin.

As Peter makes his rounds to the Daily Bugle, E.S.U., and back to Bedford Towers, he receives a message from Liz Osborn informing him that Harry's missing and she - correctly - believes he went to confront the Hobgoblin. Remembering his bluff from earlier that morning, Peter heads to Osborn Chemical.

When he arrives he finds the Goblins going at it full force: pumpkin bombs, sparkle blasts, razor bats, and everything they could fit into their respective weapons cache. Realizing it's two against one, Hobgoblin leaves, only to be followed by Harry and then by Spider-Man hitching a ride on Hobby's glider. Noticing the extra weight, Hobgoblin quickly changes direction, slams Spider- Man into a nearby water tower, and gets out of range quickly. He then focuses his attention on Harry.

Harry is eventually able to outmaneuver the Hobgoblin and drops all remaining pumpkin bomb on top of him, causing him to lose control and crash the glider into a nearby rooftop. When he finally has the advantage, Harry forces Hobgoblin to admit why he was threatening him. He responds "the Goblin formula". The strength-enhancing compound that gave the first Goblin super strength. Harry informs him that the formula was lost years ago otherwise he would have used it against him. Furious that this was all for nothing, Hobgoblin fires randomly at him to cover his tracks and leaves.

The New Mutants battle demons in Limbo. S'ym captures Illyana and takes her Soulsword, but she is able to port to Belasco's throne room. She describes her early life in Limbo, how she killed her versions of the X-Men in order to survive. She ports again, and they move backward in time to see S'ym beating her as a child, and N'astirh beating him for doing so. Porting again, they run into a past version of N'astirh, who explains that he was one of Limbo's demons who mastered Belasco's spells and offers to help Illyana defeat S'ym if she embraces her Darkchilde nature and perhaps becomes his bride. She takes the bargain. Illyana reclaims her Soulsword and opens a portal to earth, through which the New Mutants and Limbo demons begin raining down on Times Square. N'astirh tricked Illyana to get her to open the portal.

NOTE: This is part of the Inferno crossover.

N'astirh and S'ym battle for supremacy over Limbo and possession of Illyana as the Darkchilde. The New Mutants disrupt N'astirh's giant pentagram made of babies that is hovering over Times Square, taking them to a church for safety. Meanwhile Illyana is tormented by a demonic diner, pet shop, and beauty parlor.

NOTE: This is part of the Inferno crossover.

Illyana fights S'ym while N'astirh calls a truce with Magneto and the Hellfire Club.

Sam, Rahne, Roberto, Rictor, Boom Boom, and Colossus separate Illyana from S'ym and she ports them to Limbo except for Colossus, who vows to kill every

Limbo demon to get his sister back. Illyana decides to rule Limbo as Darkchilde in order to save the earth, but Rahne leads the others through stepping disks to try to go into the past and prevent Illyana from ever becoming the Darkchilde.

They find her as a small child and port back to the present, where the Darkchilde chooses to negate her own existence. She sends her friends to earth, sucks all the demons back to Limbo in a blinding flash of light, and only the young, innocent Illyana survives.

This marks the very beginnings of the Inferno. S'ym sends N'astirh and his N’asteris to Earth with the intention of capturing 13 babies of power to fulfil his dread purpose. He is wanted to drain their lives to power a permanent portal between both Limbo and Earth. With this the two dimension would be merge forever, allowing the creatures of Limbo to bleed through and take over Earth. Two of the N'asteris (demon followers of N'astirh) were out looking for powerful children and smell the mutant energies of both Artie and Leech. Drawn to them they attempt to take them and are rebuffed by the attempts of Whiz-Kid who used his newly found mutant power on them. He held them off but only shortly until they knocked him out. They would have taken him but felt that he was too old. When Taki (Whiz-Kid) comes to he decides to seek out the other children that Artie and Leech had spoken of, who happen to be the other wards that X-Factor used to take care of. He reaches them and wholly they decided to seek out their captured friends and try to rescue them

Crotus and the other N’asteris bring Artie and Leech to N’astirh, who is angry that, although Artie and Leech have power, they are not infants. Artie manages to use his powers to physically project to his teenage friends where he and Leech are being kept, but N’astirh realizes that Leech cancels Artie’s powers out, so chains them together, before revealing that he has so many spells to do which are all slowed down because he is not in Limbo, so he will feed Artie and Leech to whichever goblins bring him something to that he can do his spells faster with. He also informs his demon followers that since he didn't need the two young mutants that they could eat them. Crotus was very happy about it too. Elsewhere the young mutant that Whiz-Kid found decided to go inform X-Factor of the happenings, when the call the number there is no answer. Not willing to wait Rusty takes charge and decides that they should go. They name themselves the X-Terminators as a tribute to their former mentors X-Factor.

Back with Artie and Leech they are cornered and are about to become a demon's meal but with quick thinking Leech remembers that N'astirh had said something earlier about making his spells faster. Not really understanding what he meant, Leech tell Crotus that they have a friend (Taki aka Whiz-Kid) has a "spellchecker." Crotus then goes out and captures Taki and takes him to N'astirh. He then lurches to Artie and Leech readying himself for his meal.

The X-Terminators are attacked in a Library while they search a map for the location of the mausoleum they believe Artie, Leech and Taki are being held at. As they escape the library and make their way to the mausoleum they deal with all sorts of strange demon occurrences, such as a demonized train and possessed demon-rats. Meanwhile, Taki refuses to help N’astirh in his plans, until N’astirh warns him that he will allow his N’asteris to eat Artie and Leech. Taki agrees, but makes demands of his own, like food and blankets for the kidnapped babies. The X-Terminators arrive and wonder why the babies are being kept here, while battling the demons. Nathan Summers is brought in as a prisoner also, and N’astirh forces Taki to complete the spell or else he will let the N’asteris eat the now unconscious X-Terminators. Taki is forced to oblige, and everyone is teleported to Times Square in Manhattan, where the infants form an inverted pentagram, and the spell is complete, allowing the demons of Limbo free access between Limbo and Earth, and N’astirh can now rule the Inferno that Manhattan will become!

Taki, Artie and Leech became prisoners of the demons for a while, with Taki forced to make complex machines that enhanced the powers of the demon leader N'astirh. The rest of the team join up with the New Mutants. All the children kidnapped by the demons, including Taki, Artie and Leech, were eventually rescued safely.

The younger kids were returned to school and the older members joined forces with the New Mutants, effectively ending the team.

The X-Men fight the Marauders and Madelyne Pryor encovers her past.

After having just defeated Madelyne Pryor, Jean goes into a state of psychic attack, where she is struggling to deal with Madelyne's memories, as well as Sinster's control of Madelyne. Storm, Cyclops, Psylocke, and Wolverine enter her mind, and they all eventually drive Sinister out of her mind. They then decide to attack Sinister.

They go to Sinister's base, now Xavier's School. While searching, different groups are assaulted by Blockbuster, Sabretooth, and Malice/Polaris. They all are defeated, but at the last second Sinister causes an explosion to defeat them all. Only Longshot stands against Sinister and Malice.
