INDESTRUCTIBLE HULK #1: Thanks to @TheAcidSkull and @TheIncridibleSuperHulk8642 for MAKING me check out this issue!
COVER ART: 5/5 What I love this about this cover is EVERYTHING! The pencil job by LEINIL YU is very good but I really love the color job by SUNNY GHO!
STORY ARC: 5/5 I would not have even looked at this issue were it not for @theacidskull, @theincrediblesuperhulk8642, and even @johnkmccubbin91 who is a big MARK WAID fan. Up to this point, I have been LESS than impressed with Mark Waid's work. This issue has possibly changed my viewpoint of Mr. Waid.
My whole issue with the Hulk up to this point was the whiny Bruce Banner. "Oh, I am sooo smart but I turn into the strongest thing on the planet when I get pissed off, and I just don't like it... whhhhaaaa" This has gone on for, well, as long as the Hulk has been a character. Well, Mark Waid closed that whiny chapter and allowed Bruce Banner to grow a pair and accept the Awesomeness that is the Hulk. This is what piqued my interest first and foremost in this issue. Mark Waid put his stamp on the Hulk and may forever alter this character in the future. I like it when writers do this. They step out on a ledge and make the character better and more interesting. Well done Waid.
Once this very pivotal "attitude" adjustment of Bruce Banner finally accepting the Hulk as being part of his total package and utilizing the Hulk as a leverage tool to benefit Bruce's scientific research as Bruce's new found mission to utilize his "Bruce Banner" time to better all of mankind in a preverbal "tit for tat" race for smartest scientist in the world with Reed Richards and Tony Stark, while using the Hulk as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D as an American Agent of destroying stuff on behalf of America and the overall protection of the world.
The rest of this issue was about the Hulk proving his merit to S.H.I.E.L.D. Maria Hill has a planned invasion of the MAD THINKERS lab and she knows he knows they are coming, he knows they are coming, but he doesn't know THE HULK is coming! The MAD THINKER calls himself a mastermind and has everything calculated. In my favorite page when the Mad Thinker is battling the Hulk and is so cocky, throwing out calculations that he believes matches and will overpower the Hulk, when the Hulk gives him that very serious look that makes the Mad Thinker say "your strength is incalculable" right before the Hulk rips his suit apart, saves the day, and proves his worth to S.H.I.E.L.D. It is now game on!
STORY ART: 5/5 So I REALLY tried to find some faults in this issue. I mean, I really tried. Up to this point, I have really not liked the Hulk at all. I have not hated him, but I could care less. And I came into this issue with preconceived notions of poor writing from Waid and high expectations for the art. Well, I was put in my place with a fantastically written issue from Waid and that continued with the art from LEINIL YU and SUNNY GHO. I loved the detailed pages and the many different camera angle usage. The splash page of Hulk that I am providing was just awesome. I couldn't find any faults with the art in this issue at all.
FINAL VERDICT: 5/5 Hulk RIPS himself into a 5/5 star rating with this very fun and smart issue. I recommend this to all people who love HULK, or even don't like Hulk because this issue will turn you over to "green" side.
I LOVE THIS LOOK IN HULK'S EYE AND THE LOOK IN THE MAD THINKERS EYE. IT IS THE "UH OH" LOOK, I AM ABOUT TO GET MY $H!T HANDED TO ME!
AND HERE IS MAD HATTER GETTING HIS $H!T HANDED TO HIM. "HULK RIPS" AND SMASHES. ADD THAT TO HIS REPERTOIRE.
