Another superb cover from Bruce Jones' run on the Hulk. I'm guessing from the lettering that this might be a parody of some description, though the cover puts me mostly in mind, peculiarly, of MAD Magazine, due to its self conscious surrealism. Not just the genial Doc Samson or the monstrously muscular Hulk (which became a very common feature of Hulk around this time), but also the little head of the barista poking out between the two of them (like Alfred E Newman). The white strips of wood behind the bar are a nice little detail reminding you that this is a regular, even wholesome American diner. The man responsible is Kaare Andrews, who exhibits a wide range of styles in his work. Here he mixes the mundane with the exaggerated and comes up with a stunner.
I have ranked this cover no 165 as part of a long term project I am producing on my own blog 'marvel-ous' on blogspot.com re: my favourite marvel comic book covers. Please visit http://dmstarz.blogspot.com and check out the other covers that have made my top 250.
