"I Need To Be Free"
Incorruptible is good, but I think it suffers a little bit at the moment from Irredeemable being better. Still, this is an expertly written and paced book. Last month we saw the criminal element of Coalsville flee in terror at an ominous signal in the sky. The figure responsible, St. Lucifer. I'm not sure about the relative power levels and danger levels between The Plutonian, Max Damage, and St. Lucifer, but the criminal element seems plenty afraid.
We also learn just what it was that Max was building last issue: a jail. Interestingly enough, it appears that both St. Lucifer and Max are thinking similarly. See, Max has decided that the criminal element needs to be imprisoned to keep it separate from Coalsville. Lucifer feels that pressing the criminals into his service as he imposes order upon Coalsville is the right route. Two jailers, two different philosophies. They would have gone head to head, except...
Three jailers all at odds with each other. What will Max end up taking out of this arc?
I'll definitely continue following along, not least of all because of Marcio Takara's art. Unlike the more traditional-looking Irredeemable, Incorruptible has a more colorful, cartoony style which works since it's a kinder, gentler story than the terror of Irredeemable. This was a good issue, but I kind of wish it were the start of the arc instead of the too-slow one that preceded it.
