Fred Burkle was saved from another dimension by Angel Investigations. She joined up and worked with them for years, until her soul was destroyed and her body taken over by the goddess Illyria. Edit
Fred was first introduced to the series as a young girl trapped in the home dimension of Lorne. She had been trapped there for years, and had gone slightly insane.
After she was rescued, she fell for Angel, but when she discovered that he was unable to get romantically involved, she got over him and later dated Gunn. However, the two of them eventually broke up due to tensions in the work place.
Later, when Angel Investigations obtained the LA branch of Wolfram and Hart, Attorneys at Law, Fred became head of the science department. Fred started dating Wesley, and continued to do so until, through a deal made by an unknowing Gunn, Fred's soul was destroyed, and her body was taken over by an ancient goddess named Illyria.
Illyria grew attached to Wesley and Spike. When Wesley was killed in the crews attack on the Circle of the Black Thorn, Illyria stayed with Spike and helped him save people in the new hellish LA.
