Simply The Best
I can only say that I have been reading about 5 of the New 52 books, but in my humble opinion, this is the best DC book out there. I, Vampire never stops impressing me: great story, great characters, incredible art.
I was wondering if the book was going to jump the shark after the Rise of the Vampires storyline, a crossover with JLD, and Batman. Not surprisingly, the answer is no. The depth of the story continues and the action continues.
Following Andrew's rise to power over all of the Earth's vampires, we se him trying to change things for the better, only to have Mary try to usurp him. That is where this issue takes off. Instead of Fialkov boring us with a whole bunch of philosophy (which is actually the heart of this issue as the Van Helsings and Troughton talk for almost the entire issue) we get their conversation over the top of what is happening in the Bennett camp. It is a story mechanism that works beautifully here.
The story is action packed, plus we get a deep story, not often pulled off in comics. Also, the art, as I have said in my past reviews, is perfect. Even in the bright sunlight of the desert, Sorrentino pulls off the mysterious world of the vampires. The scenes with the Van Helsing planes coming in for the attack, are especially well done.
Overall, this book continues to grow each month, while putting out a top quality product. I have heard the rumors about it being on the chopping block, and if that is true, you have to help stop it. Pick up I, Vampire and give it a go, you'll be glad you did. I guarantee it.
