He was a really cool character and he was still "young".

A better question
Why did Nightcrawler have to die?

#6 Posted by digimod (234 posts) - - Show Bio

This is one death that I just don't get.  Not only is it the death of the Human torch but it is also the death of the Fantastic Four.  I guess sales must not have been that great that they thought they had to end it like this.  I for one loved FF for many reasons I will not get into here - and what they have planned does not look like it will interest me.  We'll see how it pans out and I'm sure in a couple of years the Human Torch will be back with the the Fantastic Four.

#9 Posted by Jonny_Anonymous (34908 posts) - - Show Bio

the fact you made this thread is the reason why he died

#10 Posted by The Devil Tiger (1263 posts) - - Show Bio

@doomsilver:

He's the most disposable of the FF.

Sue is the fanservice and the team mom.

Mister Fantastic has already died, therefor, without him they would lost many of their technological asset.

Ben Grimm is the most cool and interesting character of the band, and is the one with more depth and angsty of the four. Why killing one when you can making him suffer ?

Johnny was an insufferable faux rebel, ladiesman, blonde without real reponsibility or problem. The kind of guy you hate from high school to college.

In short, he had a target on his head from the start. I'm surprise that he had lasted that long.

Well don't worry he will probably come back. Like every other hero that dies

#12 Posted by TheCrowbar (4286 posts) - - Show Bio

he might not even be die. which is the angle marvel will play when he comes back. all you saw was a bunch of alien monsters over swarm him. he could of made it out. will never know until they bring him back. probably in a year. they'll make a mini-series or one shot of his battle, and fight to get back to earth. it's gonna be Mclame

because if they killed Sue i would stop reading and cry out in Nerdrage, ben died a while ago, and reed "died" in ultimate universe. Johnny to my memory has never died in comics, and has never done anything worth noting so he was the logical, and MOST OBVIOUS person to kill

#20 Posted by oldgum (323 posts) - - Show Bio

Because they wanna bring new changes to the team, just read FF, you'll find it's really weird.

#21 Posted by Shadow_Thief (2502 posts) - - Show Bio

Because he was the most psychologically well-adjusted member of the team.

He didn't have to die.

It was just another in the long line of "no-longer-shocking" cheap comic character deaths used to generate publicity and increase sales.

Good question....I miss that blue elf.. v__v

out of the 4, he was most likely to die, think about it. Reed is important to marvel universe and is a plot device, the thing is to popular, and sue is fan service. johnny isn't important to marvel universe and not very popular.

better question:

why isn't he back yet?

#27 Posted by SAMUSCATEXE (79 posts) - - Show Bio

To attempt to evolve the series which has been deadlocked within in it's own confines for some time, unable to reach past it's apex as it were, and to popularize a character who despite a fair fan base, had a weak reputation outside of it due to the former (Sue is another example, while loved the trappings of the F4 mobile kept her from any proper character development, something which the recent shift in F4/FF has allowed her to finally break free from) stigma, which will allow him a little better foundation upon his inevitable return among the readerships eyes. Personally I thought it was one of the best played deaths (and note, off panel *ahem*) I've ever seen. I actually wept and wept well after reading it and then silent for a bit.
