Anyone here remember the Hulk - Darkness crossover ? It was during this crossover that the Hulk developed an ability to absorb the darklings from Estacado. Was he able to do this the whole time he was in Marvel Universe or was it just a one time idea to spice up the crossover issue ? If he could, that would mean he's crossing the line with the supernatural and that would explain why he has a tendency to cross paths with Ghost Rider and Dr Strange in the animated series. I haven't been following Hulk in the comics for a very long time... So, maybe I'm wrong.
