its funny I've noticed that that none of the top smart people are really strong in the three key things that power everyone (genetics, mystic arts, and technology), most are just really good at one or two.......

I would say he is the 4th smartest HERO in the MU. It wasnt until Richards, Stark, Pym, Black Panther, and Hank McCoy were all captured did he say that he was now the smartest person left uncaptured.  
 
I think he thinks of himself as the 4th smartest but also thinks that Richards, Stark, and Pym all under estimate him.

We all agree that Richards and Von Doom are smartest and 2nd smartest respectively. I would place Pym and BP below Banner, and Stark above him.

under reed and cable above beast mr sinister doom amadeus cho pym and stark. but they are all specialists in their respective field. even richards admitted that pym was the absolute best geneticist i believe it was. that was in a f4 comic where they had panther and storm filling in. although he did say it would only take 2 weeks for reed to master pyms level of ability in that field. marvel.com had on cable's bio that his smarts rivaled that of even reed richards. he is from the future so he has a different level of knowledge and understanding.

@D00MSMITH: That is really up for debate, but it has been hinted several times, and that banner has actually out smarted  the leader several times. Though I not fully sure.

he is smarter than the leader now but i dont think he was before, im probably wrong though. He could out smart the Leader every now and then but usually Hulk beat the leader rather then Banner using his smarts

Hm... If we're talking overall knowledge, I believe this should be the list- 
 
1. Dr. Doom- Not only is he a genius is just about every way Reed is, the man knows his magic. Something Reed does not. 
2. Mr. Fantastic- For Obvious reasons 
3. Hank Pym- Scientist Supreme. The man Reed goes to when he needs help 
4. Tony Stark- Not only is he a genius, but he's extremely creative 
5. Bruce Banner- A genius and an expert on radiation 
6. The Leader- Obvious reasons 
7. Amadeus Cho- Apparently the 7th smartest person on the planet 
8. Dr. Strange- Master of the Mystic Arts 
9. Valeria Richards- Not even 10 years old, but has shown to be on par with the likes of Reed and Doom 
10. Norman Osborn- Brilliant tech  designer and scientist
11. Mr. Sinister- An expert on genetics. 
12. Beast& Prof. X- Second to Sinister on genetics, but so close to each other 
13. Black Panther- Attended the best institutions on the planet and is a gifted scientist. 
14. Spider-Man- For right now, he is lower on the list, but if he had more time and the finances, he'd be at least #4. 
15. Dr. Octopus- Gifted scientist and inventor 
 
I'm sure there will be arguments on this list, but you have to admit that these 15 are indeed up there.

im not argueing about who is on the list but if Valeria is the same or above Doom and Reed why is she 9th on the list?

@DEGRAAF: Good question. Just because she has shown potential, it doesn't mean that she actually IS higher or the same as them. In due time, she'll definitely be in the top three, but for right now, she's around the middle :)

Why must there be a smartest anyway? We can state which ones are genius but they really are on the same ground even though one outsmart the other now and then, but that can go both way.

Banner is in the top five easily. On another note the #1 & 2 position with Reed and Doom can go either way but most days id give it to Reed.

Even tho she is already out smarting her father? I can wait to see what she will be like in the 616 timeline as an adult. I would like to see her "master" the science world, being able to out smart  Reed, Pym, Stark, and Banner at the same time, and then go on to master magic. If Reed can literally expand his mind to become smarter and she ever truelly out smart her father? She cant stretch like he can so she should presumably have a limit right?

I think we can say he is in the top 5 heroes easily. He might be in the top 5 over all in the MU. I think when it comes to overall knowledge (-magic) Reed is the smartest, when you factor magic in with everything else i would say Doom is the smartest.

I know people will disagree with me about my number 9, but people need to recognize Peter is very intelligent and very close in intellect to the rest of them. He created his webs, suits, web shooters and tons more!  If Peter had more time and money he might be able to break the top 5.

2.Doom/Richards (I think their just about equal people like to say the magic outstrips it byt thats not even a qualified field.. &the arrogance level brings it back to equal footing almost everytime)
3.Pym 
4.Stark/T'Challa  (T'Challa does everythin Tony does ie with The Wakandan Design Group&runs a country at the same time)
5. En Sabah Nur (Figured out alien technology 4000 yrs ago that would give Pym a headache now.. He'd be higher if I could qualify it better)
6. High Evolutionary 
7.Cho 
8. Magnus-Lensherr 
9. Parker
10.Xavier (Unparralled in mutant genetics, psychology &psionics he was also a flipchoice between him &McCoy, except Charles skill in psionic technology just outstrips Beast )
 
 
The compartmentalised mind of Banner.. This guys basically meant to be the 21st centuries Einstein.. The other guys have better practical outputs because their situations, freedom &wealth solidifies those hero/villain positions which allow them time &valuable research opportunities &therefore uses for such applications...  
  
 Were Banner not constantly on the run &trying to tame the Monster within.. He would easily be up there with the best of em livin off patents or research grants/govt contracts, rewriting string theory &makin Hawking look like a retard 
 
Richards has said on many occasions Banner is not only smarter but that his brain has virtually no limits.. yes Richards tends to float on the modest side.. but even Stark has said Banner is THE smartest person he knows.. in terms of RAW brain power, potential, the ability he displays in his colleagues specialist fields that they are supposedly "experts" in as well as being the world leader (before he went on the run) in Physics/Super String Theory.. He'a allso the foremost authority on Gamma radiation..

Banner is a capable hero without having to become Hulk. Some of his inventions are impressive. His force shield generator (can withstand blows from other Hulks & augments his own strength) and old power taser are quite effective!

Oh but I already knew about those (never saw taser tho) I'm sure Banner is able to make great inventions but how great is pretty much what I'm wondering.

 Here's something interesting I found while reading exiles 1 apparently Banner is considered one of the builder of the modern world. Well not too surprising he made the gamme bomb afterall which lead to tons of other things.

No. Screw what they say; that little girl hasn't displayed any major feats that I'm aware of. I don't know what they're trying to pull by saying she is smarter than Reed. That's just a bunch of pull. I don't even consider her smarter than Doom, Pym, T'challa, Stark, or Banner. Her intelligence needs to be inhibited. I'm tired of hearing her name every time I read a intellectual Marvel debate.

According to Reed, Banner is smarter than Stark and Pym, placing him as the third smartest man on the planet. I am a firm believer that Banner would have EVEN MORE intellectual feats if he wasn't Hulk, because Banner + good resources > Pym + good resources. (Yeah, I did a little research and have changed my opinion) When Banner was in his late teens, he was building Gamma bombs (which is a better feat than either Tony Stark, Peter Parker or Reed Richards (as far as I know) displayed in their late teens).

I'm also tired of people saying stuff like "Reed, Doom, and Pym are the top minds. Banner and Tony are slightly behind." Maybe Tony, but Banner has proven that he is smarter than Tony in recent story arcs, and, if it weren't for Hulk, he would be the guy Reed Richards (who, if I might, isn't ****ing omniscient) goes to when he needs help, instead of Pym. Pym is just Banner's replacement... not to downplay on Pym's intelligence though; I just no longer think that Pym is smarter than Banner.

People, Banner has an incalculable intellect... meaning that his brain's processing power is pass off-the-charts. He may not be smarter than Reed or Victor, but he's pretty damn close.

@kramotz: While i really want Banner to be smarter than reed, he is not. Maybe since banner has been using his brain more often he'd surpass reed, but right now reeds feats simply outclass banner.
