Review: Hulk 30.1
Hulk faces a new enemy. One that has filled Thunderbolt Ross' job. The man's name is Fortean and he is looking to punish the Hulk for killing Thunderbolt Ross.
The Good
The whole idea of the ".1 Initiative" was that new readers could jump on and get a sense of the character and what's been happening in the book; Hulk 30.1 is the best example of it. You really get a great sense of who the character is, where he has been, and where he is going from this issue. I know I've trashed Red Hulk a few times, but from reading this issue, it seems like he's come into his own, since I stopped reading this book a we issues ago (right before Jeff Parker started writing it). What I liked most about this issue was Fortean. I love the fact he wants to kill Hulk for killing Thunderbolt Ross, when the reader knows they are one in the same. Fortean has a great "take no prisoners" attitude. He's studied all of General Ross' techniques and applies them to his fight with Hulk. He's got the upper-hand, and Hulk knows it. There's a great twist ending at the end that's going to drive the next few issues, and I don't want to ruin it here, but it's worth the read overall.
