The truth revealed!
Issue #22 in the Hulk series and one of the most earth shattering issues in Hulk history. We've seen the rise of a new Red Hulk, the fall of Abomination, the rise of Rick Jones as the new Abomb, Red She-hulk, the rise of the Offenders, and now are knee deep in World War Hulks with Hulked out Avengers, X-men, and Fantastic Four, and now the identity of the Red Hulk!
After being exposed to Gamma and cosmic energies, the heroes of the Marvel universe find themselves Hulked-out and out for blood against the Red Hulk. The Red Hulk searches for Banner who is being held along with the eight smartest men in the Marvel universe Intelligencia homebase, while the leader, M.O.D.O.K, and Samson watch as the Red Hulk defends himself against the legion of Gamma powered heroes. Realizing that the Hulked-out heroes also have lowered intelligence and oversized egos, Red Hulk decides to match them against one another, leaving Iceman to battle the Human Torch, Cap to face Ms. Marvel, and Storm to face Thor, while he grabs Cyclops and uses his eye beems to make a get away. After searching for Banner and the other intellects, he finds them only to run into more Hulked-out heroes, Spider-man and Wolverine. After getting the tar beat out of him, he increases his body heat creating an inferno which breaks him free. While Doc Samson and the rest of the Intelligencia discuss the effects of the Hulked-out heroes, that's when Doc Samson realizes that the cosmic and Gamma powers are unstable and will ultimately kill the heroes. Doc Samson decides to make a stand against it and strikes the Leader, only to be put down by M.O.D.O.K. After escaping the grasp of Wolverine and Spider-man, the REd Hulk then runs into Red She-hulk who attemps to drain his power, when he transforms back to his original form, General Thunderbolt Ross.
That's right, the Red Hulk is Gen. Ross, who would of guessed. Jeff Loeb really has worked up some excellent stories through the Red Hulk saga, and World War Hulks is just another one of those great sagas. Also, I just really like seeing all those Hulked-out heroes. The cover by ED McGuinness is cool, really an eye catcher having the Red Hulk tied up by Spider-man and Woverine all Hulked-out. So overall, it gets a 4.5 in my book. The artwork was great, the story was amazing, and it was a really good read. So there, go read it, and enjoy. Nice readings.
