"Who shot the Hulk?" Continues!
Who shot the Hulk? And how will Bruce Banner get back to normal? Waid (writer), Bagley (penciler), Hennessy (inks), and Keith (colors) are here to answers these questions!
The Good
In this issue, the people behind Hulk's shooting have recreated the Abomination; and S.H.I.E.L.D. is trying to find out who exactly these people are! Because these people aren't done with the Hulk and Bruce Banner just yet.
I like the mystery behind "Who shot the Hulk?" I'm really intrigued in the story and finding out who exactly wants Bruce Banner/Hulk and for what purpose? Right now there's a bunch of questions I have and very little answers, but for now, I'm enjoying how Mark Waid is building up suspense for this big reveal.
I liked the artwork for this series/issue. Mark Bagley is an amazing penciler/artist, and he's always done amazing work. Though his style will always remind me of the Ultimate Spider-Man series he worked on with Brian Michael Bendis for a long while, and seeing his style not on the Ultimate Spider-Man feels a bit weird; I do like his artwork for this Hulk series. It works perfectly with the inks and colors from Hennessy and Keith.
The Bad
I'm sorry, I just laughed when Waid revealed Bruce Banner in this issue! It just feels really comedic, instead of sad or serious, or whatever emotional reaction I'm supposed to feel for Bruce Banner after him getting a serious brain injury. Don't get me wrong, the brain trauma that Bruce Banner has in a real world scenario is not a joking matter, BUT because this is a comic book; it kinda gives me an excuse to find this funny. This may or may not have anything to do with your experience with this issue, but every time I read what Bruce Banner would say; it made me think of Tom Hanks' Forrest Gump [I don't know why, but it did]. It just hindered me from fully enjoying this issue for what it was.
Plus with Bruce Banner not really being of one-mind currently, the fight between him and Abomination didn't make much sense. When Bruce "Hulked out" you would expect him to be destroying stuff Michael Bay Transformer style, just as the Hulk; however that didn't happen. Instead, the fight between him and Abomination was more like the generic background music you would have playing while cooking, cleaning, talking etc. Hulk and Abomination were all over the town tearing it up, and it looked cool; but because they weren't talking, or weren't really the main focus during their fight, it just seemed pointless or like background music.
The Verdict
I recommend this series. I mean it's good, it shows promise, but it just appears that this series [or issue] could've been better. But I am still really intrigued in the story revolving around "Who Shot Hulk?" 2 out of 5. Until next time!
