    I Am The Omega

This has been quite an interesting ride so far. The series has been shifting in quality, but as I usually believe, you can't really judge until the series manages to wrap itself up. Now, due to the fact that there wasn't enough content or material to speak about in the previous installment, this is going to be a collective review of both the 14th and the 15th issue. For thous who are trying to be careful, this review is going to be very spoiler heavy, so beware. Also, I'm eliminating my signature "recommendation" sentence at the end, which won't matter to thous who haven't been following me. So, without further hinderance, let's start.

I'd like to begin with the negative aspects, since I did enjoy the issue, and would thus prefer not to end on a bad note. Anyways, in the previous issue, I had a problem with Deadpool appearing, and I was rightly concerned. There are multiple other assassins and mercs out there who are probably more reliable than Deadpool in a very high-stakes situation. He's a great marksmen, no doubt, but still, he was probably only included because Duggan already had a lot of experience writing him. That said, I can certainly provide a counter point to my own statement, which sort of balances out the misgivings I have on this ordeal. Deadpool is a mercenary, and if experience and conon storytelling tell me anything, he always follows through when there's a decent buck to be made, and given that Doc Green offers Wade a bag full of gold ( fake, but Deadpool doesn't know that), I can see why he could be trusted in this particular case. Plus, there's also the whole deal with Captain America hiring him to spy on Bruce, which makes sense if you go back to read Deadpool's series, in the sense that Steve and Wade are now friends.

Moreover, I have some thoughts on Ross's characterization, and I'd say it's a double edged sword situation. So here's the thing, in the previous issue, Ross settles on a radiation filled side to fuel himself to fight the Hulk, which doesn't make sense to me because:

    A) Hulk can absorb radiation as well, unless it's of the cosmic variety. So why he needed to inhibit Ross's abilities is beyond me.

    and

    B) Ross was using his absorbing powers.

Ross has done a lot since his "criminal" activity days. Jeff Parker crafted a wonderful story and provided a good reason as to why he couldn't use his absorbing powers ever again. If he does, he either permanently reverts back into his human form, or he gets stuck as a Gamma charged giant. Yet, despite all this, Ross didn't have any qualms with using this power against the Hulk. Now I can understand the severity of the threat he was facing, but I'd like these type of things to be at least addressed. ONE LINE from Ross would have been quite enough, but no, nothing. On one hand, I respect that Duggan didn't ignore Red Hulk's absorbing abilities as so many writers have, but on the other hand, I'm kind of annoyed he didn't mention the canon context behind it. I did however enjoy Ross's general characterization, he's grown away from the Hulk in his own right, but you can still feel the hatred brewing between them. Plus, by the end, the calm and collected military dialogue from Ross really won me over. He's an ass, no doubt, but I love that he still maintains his grace to some degree.

Now, aside from these problems, this latest issue was absolutely great! I was a bit worried with how things ended in the previously, but I guess Doc had it coming with his overconfidence. He forgot his main weapon, anger, but now has gone back to his "roots", relatively speaking. What I love about Duggans fights is that they are gruesome and physical in a unique way. It's hard to make a fight such as this in any way realistic, however Gerry Duggan just pulls it off. What further improves and intensifies the experience his collaboration with Mark Bagley, the artist. You can almost feel the bone shattering, the heavy punches, and every skin piercing stab throughout the whole fight. It's brilliant.

If you've been disappointed with how Hulk has been portrayed power-wise, then you'll be pretty happy with how things down. Furthermore, I'd like to commend Duggan for having the guts to finally do what I thought should have been done every since Jeff Parker stopped writing Red Hulk. He finally cured Ross of his Gamma affliction. He had a great run, but at this point no one knew what to do with him anymore.

In the end, this was a fantastic issue, brought down by some problems, but great nonetheless. It's fun, action-packed, well-characterized and gruesome as hell. Enjoy.
