Rex Tyler developed Miraclo, a super pill with a one hour time limit. When Rex gave up the mask his son, Rick, took over. And in the future an android was built who became Hourman for a short time. Edit

Rex was a business man who used his company to develop a drug that could enhance human attributes for one hour if it was used in a condensed dose. Using this new drug, dubbed Miraclo, Rex became the hero Hourman and joined the Justice Society Of America. Eventually he left the JSA and went on to join Uncle Sam's original group of Freedom Fighters. Rex became addicted to his drug and used various forms of it until he had to give up on the whole hero thing. Eventually, his son Rick took over the mantle regardless of Rex's objections.

Years later after his son gave up the mantle of Hourman, Rex continued the fight until he seemed to die by the hands of Extant, but the android Hourman managed to travel to the moment and save him by positioning him in a secluded time pocket that Rick could visit for an hour at a time.

During the Crisis on Infinite Earths, Rick used a Miraclo pill and a new costume to become a new version of Hourman. Much like his father however, he became extremely addicted to Miraclo and he sought to use new ways of introducing it into his system. Currently he uses gauntlets that inject it right into his system. For awhile Rick wasn't Hourman and the android became the Hourman for the time being until Rick wrestled the role away.  Rick is now a member of the world's first super team, the Justice Society of America and is happily married to Jesse Chambers, Liberty Belle.

The android Hourman of the future.

During Rex's life he had frequent blackouts. It turned out that these were actually periods of time where he would travel to the future and run his company, Tyler Chemorobotics. During his time in the future he decided to build a robotic Hourman for some unknown reason. This version had remarkable powers and was granted the Worlogog, an advance time altering device, by Metron in hopes of making him into a New God.

At one point Hourman came into the past with the rest of the Justice Legion Alpha to warn the present Justice League Of America about the future threat of Solaris. He remained in the past and befriended Justice League mascot Snapper Carr and given the name Matthew Tyler. To make himself more able to experience humanity, he gave up the Worlogog. During his time here he joined the Justice Society Of America, fought Amazo, and traveled through time. Eventually though he returned to his own time.
