The first mutant born since after the results of M-Day. The child could be the mutant messaih, or the harbinger of death for all man kind.
Hope was the first new mutant born since the Decimation. She was born in Cooperstown, Alaska. The moment she was born, Cerebra blew up.
The baby was later kidnapped by the Marauders and delivered to Mister Sinister, actually Mystique in disguise. She took the baby and made her touch the comatose Rogue. Gambit quickly took her away from Mystique, believing that she just killed her but he was amazed to see that the baby was alright and that it even cured Rogue. After a huge battle between the Marauders, X-Men, and Predator X, Cyclops decided that the baby would be better off with Cable, and allowed his son to take her to the future. However, an adamant Bishop decided to track Cable and the baby in order to finally kill her and prevent his future from happening.
Upon jumping into the future, Cable took her to the secluded safe haven of New Liberty in the future, where Cable married Hope, who became like a mother to the mutant baby. Years passed, since his last battle with Bishop damaged his time machine, Cable could only jump forward in time. She was now seven years old. But then New Liberty was invaded by humanoid insects who called themselves the United States Army. Cable fought them and left New Liberty with his wife and Hope in order to make sure New Liberty didn't fall. After spending months in the wasteland, the family was attacked by the president of the insects, whom Hope managed to save her family from by stabbing the insect in his weak spot, since she had been watching Cable fight. Cable questioned the president where he found out that Bishop, in order to find Hope in the future, had destroyed all the continents in the world, except North America, in order to easily find her and kill her. Cable killed the president, and the family moved on. The family encountered a settlement, but were met with resistance. Cable took care of them easily, but not fast enough, as her mother was shot and died in Cable's arms while she watched. Hope saw Cable bury her mother and departed with him. After arriving at a church, the pastor asked the name of the child. In that moment, Cable decided to name her Hope Summers, in honor of her adoptive mother.
When Cyclops was able to track down Cable into the future, he sends out the mutant Black Ops team, X-Force to retrieve him to the present. When they were able to track Cable down, but they were greeted by Hope. Cable told X-Force that he doesn't need their help and also brief them that Bishop has now aligned himself with his clone, Stryfe. As the team were traveling, they were attacked by Stryfe and were defeated. Stryfe then took Hope and Warpath to his citadel, where he removed his helmet and Hope ask him if he was Cable. Stryfe tried to figure out the significance of the child but he detects that she is nothing special and it at this time that Bishop made his move to kill Hope. Stryfe was able to stop this and was finally able to read Bishop's mind to know about the child. Warpath broke free and attack Stryfe but Hope distracted him, telling him not to hurt Nathan, giving Stryfe an opening to retaliate at Warpath. As Stryfe was about to kill Hope, he was stopped by Cable, Wolverine and Elixir. As Stryfe defeated half of the X-Force, he again set his sights to Hope, only to be stop again, this time by Apocalypse and his horseman, Archangel, who defeated him. Hope was then picked up by Apocalypse, telling her that she is worthy to become his next vessel for his soul, but he was surrounded by X-Force and Cable, demanding the child back. Archangel told Apocalypse that he spared his life when he wanted to die and that he owes him his life, so in exchange he wanted Hope back to them, to which Apocalypse honored his end of the bargain. Outside of the citadel, Wolverine told Cable to leave with Hope and he complied but Hope argued that they shouldn't leave them behind, but it was already too late as Cable had already time-traveled.
The baby girl's powers remain to be seen, the only notable thing is that when she was born, she unleashed a massive psionic impulse that destroyed Cerebra. She also proved to be immune to Rogue's newly lethal absorption power and her touch erased all of the previous memories and abilities Rogue had absorbed, including those of the Hecatomb. She also cured Rogue of the Strain 88 virus.
During Messiah Complex when the Three-in-One tried to search for her when she was kidnapped by the Marauders, she was able to block and disrupt Cerebra from finding her.
While she's a child, she's already an excellent hand-to-hand combatant by copying Cable's movements. Despite not exhibiting further powers, not even the ones displayed while an infant, Hope has become a keen observer and survivalist, able to find shelter and supplies.
She also has had the Phoenix avatar appear in here eyes hinting that she may be a vessel for the Phoenix entity.
She has recently demonstrated powerful telekinesis (enough to stop a bullet in mid air), as well as possible telepathy
