Previously a rarity in comics, modern times have since seen an increase in openly gay characters to reflect a more modern and accurate portrayal of society.
@aztek the lost: I think you are right that comic book companies restrict what goes out as a finished product. While there are definitely some bad writers and artists, I still thinks the powers that be will say things like "We need a prominent gay character" (which is what I think happened to Obsidian) and it has to happen despite any lack of continuity or context.
