Highlander
Synopsis
Immortals battle each other for the Prize and Connor Macleod finds himself being hunted down by a dangerous Immortal.
The Good
As a Highlander fan, this movie is a cult-hit phenomenon even though it didn't receive much success in the 80s. It's interesting to see a group of Immortals who can't die and live for centuries among the mortals. Connor Macleod is a Scottish warrior who died in battle and later came back to life. This would bring confusion and terror to his own people leading to the fact that he was possessed by the devil. Now Connor has to go through these lifetime changes because he can never die except for the beheading part. Sean Connery played well as the immortal Ramirez who teaches Connor the ways of immortality. I liked how the relationship was played out between the two Immortal characters. The fight scenes between Connor and the evil immortal, Kurgan was quite action packed and fun to watch. The music theme which was sang by Queen themselves is classic rock and fun to hear from the 80s.
The Bad
If anyone doesn't know what the Highlander franchise is about. I suggest you watch the first movie itself. There is a TV series which stars Adrian Paul as Duncan Macleod. But the only problem is that the first movie and the series sets the story apart. Because Connor received the final Quickening and became mortal in the end. This doesn't quite make sense because there has to be other immortals around to battle against. The tagline says there can be only one, which is true. But there are other Immortals out there and wanted to win the Prize. But if you want more Immortal action, then you should watch the Highlander TV series. It's worth your Quickening time.
The Verdict
The first Highlander movie was a pure classic fantasy. Living forever can be a good thing. But you may never live a day to see your family and friends. This Highlander receives four quickenings out of five.
