Highlander 2: The Quickening REVIEW
This is the Sequelitis archetype when the sequel not only fails to live up to the original movie but completely and utterly killed any chance for a successful franchise in the only first 12 minutes.
- The movie is one large retcon to the first movie that turn the Immortals into aliens from the planet Zeist which was never alluded into the first movie.
- There is endless amount of plot holes created by the aforementioned retcon.
- the story delves into Idiot Plot when the story might be over already if the characters were smarter.
- continuity is thrown right out of the window, as characters, who very clearly died in the first film, are resurrected for no reason and gain previously unexplained skills out of nowhere
- Oh and speaking of that, the real cherry on the cake is that the bluelights in the cover "Packed with action and visual effects, Highlander 2: the Quickening is the smartest sci-fi-thriler since Blade Runner".
After this horrible disaster the franchise never fully recovered the following movies disregard completely Quickening and despite its failures, Highlander manage to attain some success with the TV series that lasted for 6 seasons.
I strongly recommend The Spoony One review for some laughs. He also review Highlander: the Source that manages to get even lower than the Quickening ever did.
