    The Hero Initiative is a charity dedicated to helping comic creators in medical or financial need. We all love comic books and there are many creators that have done wonders on our favorite titles. One of the problems working in the comic book industry is a lot of jobs are freelance jobs. That means no medical benefits. That's where the Hero Initiative comes in. It's the first ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book creators in need.

    Today it was announced that they are teaming up with DC Comics for the first time in the Justice League of America #50 project. The call has gone out and dozens of artists are putting their pen to paper to help out. DC has generously donated 100 blank-covered cardstock copies of Justice League of America #50 to Hero and work is being created by well-known artists such as Jim Lee, Alex Ross, George Perez, Jim Valentino and many more.

    “We're thrilled to be working in new ways with DC Comics, and showcasing some of the greatest artists and greatest characters in the world," said Hero Initiative President Jim McLauchlin. "And of course, sales of the covers and the collected book will go toward helping many other comic creators in need."

    == TEASER ==
    All 100 original Justice League of America covers will be published in a book slated for release in 2011 and a public viewing of all covers will be scheduled as well. Stay tuned to for more information on this project.

    Be sure to check out www.heroinitiative.org for more on how you can become a member or just to help out.

    I always feel bad for any artist put next to Alex Ross.  Just not fair that everyone looks like grade schoolers with crayons next to that man.

    Always happy to donate to the Hero Initiative.  Surprised they didn't put out a benefit comic for Len Wein (spelling?) when his house caught on fire, or for Gene Colan when he was mugged and injured.

    I would love to see Stan Goldberg do an Archie-style take on the classic JLA.
