Marvel Makeover
In Her-Oes we find our beloved classic Marvel Superheroines in high school, well acquainted and dealing with their powers. Now we all know that Jenny Walters didn't go to high school with Janet Van Dyne or that they had their powers at their teenage years but it's Marvel they have countless universes so why not, right?
Marvel has done something brilliant here but it may not be seen at first glance. While the die hard comic book fan may see it as a corny and disrespectful to the original stories "Her-Oes" is Marvel's way of making comics more girl-friendly. Looking back we have to be honest about it and find that comics originally started out as a guy thing. Even today on TV and movies we see many "comic book geek" stereo type is made up of a boy community.
Superman came before Wonderwoman
While Super heroies have been around for some time now the boy comic book enthusiasts has outnumbered the girl comic book enthusiasts. It seems that Archies is still in the lead for attracting female readers. The "Her-Oes" rewrite actually holds much similarity to "Mary-Jane Love Spiderman comic" which has little to do with any actual action but follows a young girl's trials in her drama filled life. I'm not saying that Mary-Jane is way cooler than Spiderman but simply that even girl comic book geeks as much as we dislike wearing make-up to school or stiletos and have no idea what the difference between a Gucci and a Louie Vitton (Did I spell that right?) we still love gossip and drama.
We love knowing Iron man save the world but we're more interested that he got with Black widow. We love that heroes have powers and our awesome but we also love finding out if that they've fallen in love. What "Her-Oes" does is give us that drama and it also gives the characters we love a little more depth.
