Hellboy

History

In 1964 he battled the evil Baba Yaga at the cost of one of her eyes. In  1959 Hellboy went up against the villain Herman Von Klempt and his genetically engineered cyborg ape Brutus. He stopped both on them and ended Klempts evil experiments however it would not be the last time they fought. In 1994 Hellboy first encountered Rasputin after Prof. Bruttenholm accidentally awoke him and after traveling to Cavendish Hall Rasputin attempted to revive the Ogdru Jahad. During the battle Bruttenholm met his end at the hands of a frog like monster. In revenge Hellboy let Rasputin burn to death, but Rasputin’s allies awoke. Later Hellboy discovers the truth of his origins as well as meeting his father  the demon Sheol. After Vladimir Giurescu was brought back to life by Project Ragnor Rok he met Hecate and discovered his true name Anung Un Rama and was informed that he would release the Ogdru Jahad. After Vladimir died Roger was found and drained out Liz’s powers leaving her in a coma. It wasn’t until Hellboy and Roger defeated his brother that Liz was given back her powers. In 1998 Hellboy went to Lizarza, Spain and met Adrian Frost who’s father Malcolm Frost witnessed Hellboys awaking in 1944. It was here that Hellboy became aware of the power of his arm and decided it was best he keep it. Hellboy and Abe go to Druggan Hill in England investigating the theft of a box which is a prison for the demon Ualac. It was taken by Igor Weldon Bromhead and had it sold to a count and his wife. The countess was possessed by Ualac and after defeating Hellboy he steals his crown of fire which invisibly sits on his head. He used his name Anung Un Rama to imprison him however his name means nothing without the crown and with it gone he was free. He stopped Ualac trapped him and sent him back to Hell and gave his crown to a demon in Pandemonium named Astaroth.

Conqueror Worm

In 2001 after NASA discovered a comet it was revealed to be an Nazi rocket which landed at Hunter Castle in Austria. Hellboy, Roger, Laura Karnstein and more field agents. After the group became separated Hellboy was captured by Herman von Klempt and found that Ernest Oeming was on the ship coming to Earth. Roger met Lobster Johnson who told him that he was killed after an explosion that occurred at the Castle leaving only Von Klempt. While imprisoned Hellboy met an alien who was observing the Nazis. The alien died, but before he did he gave Hellboy an item he could use to defeat the Conqueror Worm that was part of a plan to awaken the Ogdru Jahad and destroy the planet. Meanwhile Karnstein had been turned into a monster and confronted Rasputin who was against Von Klempt due to the fact that Klempt’s plan would result in the complete destruction of earth, but Rasputin’s is to destroy the world and rebuild the world. Karnstein was given the a seed of rebirth by Rasputin, but she was later killed by Lobster. Roger then absorbed her energy, and stopped the worm. Hellboy then quit B.P.R.D.

After BPRD

Hellboy later finds a witch-doctor in hopes of getting answers about his destiny. After traveling into the bottom of the sea. He is imprisoned by an evil sea hag named Bog Roosh thanks to a special nail and three mermaids. She intends to stop the apocalypse by taking him apart and sending his arm to the bottom of the ocean. However thanks to one of the three mermaids he stops the hag, however he is lost at sea. Two years later he washes up on an unknown island. He accidentally awoke a arcane mystic who has knowledge of the universe such as Ogdru Jahad, the planet and even God. However as he was awoken by Hellboy’s blood it’s demonic effects have caused him to lose his sanity. He stops the mystic as well as an Ogdru Jahad offspring called Urgo-Hem. He was also being observed by a changeling called Daoine Sidh. He has recently turned down a chance to rule all witches and once again battled Baba Yaga as well Koschei the Deathless

Weapons and Charms

Hellboy is known for using various weapons and mystical items in his fight against evil. His most two notable items are his The Good Samaritan ( and extremely large gun known for its brute strength and mystical background). The Good Samaritan was given to him by his friend the Torch of Liberty. The gun was made in Massachusetts. It's made up of different metals like silver, metal from old horseshoes, cannonballs, and melted metals from sacred amulets. Upon melting the the sacred amulets, incantations were said. Even a the handle of the gun was made from a portion of the true cross. Hellboy called the gun The Good Samaritan because he would put monsters out of there misery. The Good Samaritan is a like a miniature hand cannon. It weighs 6lbs which could also be used as a hammer. It is a .60 mm mega-pistol that can blow huge holes in buildings. The gun can hold up to four bullets making it the ultimate weapon. Upon impact a glass chamber within the bullet casing launches numerous other things. These things can include holy water, white oak or anything else thats needed to be used to defeat the monster at hand. In the side of the gun, Hellboy embedded a B.R.P.D symbol and after Professor Broom had given Hellboy the double-faced medallion, Hellboy split the medallion in half and placed a face of it on both side of the gun handle. The bullet itself has its own unique structure. Each bullet has its own hollow glass tip that Hellboy can fill with anything he needs. Another weapon is The Right Hand of Doom (his large rock like arm). Hellboy also used different other charms and gadgets when the situation calls for it. Hellboy also carries a golden cross that is attached to a chain that wraps around his waist. The chain was given to him by his Earth father Professor Broom which always reminds Hellboy that he makes himself be who he wants to be and that he is good.

Powers And Abilities

Hellboy has demonic strength and is able to lift 10 tons. Another power Hellboy has is tracking and can locate his enemies wherever they are if he picks up their scent. Hellboy is also able to adapt to his environment whether the condition is extremely harmful,and also maintains a very high healing factor. He has been savagely beaten by large opponents. thrown through walls and even been shot in his chest multiple times, yet be continues to fight. Hellboy's right arm is a solid rock carved with occult symbols which can be used as a good hand to hand combat weapon. He is 8 1/2 feet tall and has supernatural density, strength, and is in good shape.

Hellboy: Sword Of Storms (2006)

Hellboy: Sword of Storms is the first animated series based on the comic book Hellboy by Mike Mignola. It first aired in 2006 on Cartoon Network just in time for Halloween and was released on DVD in February 2007. The film was produced by Starz Media's Film Roman and Revolution Studios and was produced by animation veteran Tad Stones. This movie started off with Liz (voiced by Selma Blair) and Abe Sapien (voiced by Doug Jones) searching a catacomb. There the stumbled upon a member of the B.P.R.D. all bones. Abe steps on a stone setting off a trap. As they go to the end of a tunnel they are bombarded by mummies and monsters and are wondering where Hellboy (voiced by Ron Perlman) is. He busts through on a bat monster and they battle the mummies and monster. Liz loses control and after the whole place is on fire, Hellboy goes to her and snaps her out of it. Hellboy tells her, "you did okay kid". Later Liz, Hellboy, and Abe are on a plane. She then apologizes to Abe for burning him. Abe says, "it's merely a sun burn". Hellboy then tell Liz that she had to do it because they were mummies and they were gonna kill her and Abe also tells her that she did what she had to do. Liz says that she lost control and that she could've hurt Abe and Hellboy. She also says that how shes should be the one locked up and put away because she is the one who is a monster. Hellboy and Abe would laugh and tell her that , " No, no, you're the monster, all right. Me and Abe, we... I mean, you're lucky we let you be seen with us ." Abe then says, "it's true. You do cramp our style." Hellboy then says that, "the world needs what they do. That makes us good guys. Thats enough for me."

Then the story begins when a Japanese professor of folklore named Professor Sakai opens a forbidden scroll and becomes possessed by the ancient Japanese demons of Thunder and Lightning, who seek to return and summon their brothers, the Dragons, to dominate the human world. Professor Sakai begins talking about the story described on the scroll. It is about a samurai who trapped two demons, Thunder and Lighting, Sons of the Storm who were put into the sword of the samurai before the demons could release their brothers The Dragons. As for this, it is something which happened, the Brothers of the Dragons, Thunder and Lightning brought their wrath upon the lands of a powerful Dinyo smashing them with their powerful weapons. The war hammer of Thunder made mountains crumble and the forests tremble in fear his brother Lightning, wielded a fascists spear of white fire which scorched the Earth and boiled the sea. The Dinyo was helpless before these monsters. To save his lands he offered to be them what was most precious to him, his daughter. A fragile flower as pale as the moon and as beautiful as the stars. But the Dinyo had a brave samurai in his service who loved the daughter. Knowing the Dinyo plan was to sacrifice the girl, the samurai sent her to a shrine deep in the woods where she would be hidden from the monsters. So when the demons came to collect their prize they find not yet the beautiful daughter but a samurai warrior ready to protect his love. Thunder and Lightning split the sky with their anger pounding rain like daggers upon the samurai, but he did not weaken. Before finishing the story the Professor body would be possessed by the two brothers Thunder and Lightning. The professor continues and says, " It seems the demons could not be stopped,  they would break the samurai into pieces but the samurai sword has been inscribed with ancient words of great enchantment. Samurai sword dranked deep of teah blood of the demon. Its magic trpped them in his blade froever. The monsters was gone from his land but the Dinyo was angered by the samurais trick. his promis to the demons have been broken no matter how honoreous the bargain the Dinyo have given his word and the samuari had broken it.  The samurai had lived to go meet his love at the shrine and to never return. The dishonor to the Dinyo house could never be undone, their could only be retirubtion. The Dinyo beseeched the gods to let them ease his shame and the gods let him. 

The Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (B.P.R.D) is brought in after Sakai attacks one of his associates. Kate and Hellboy are talking and Hellboy sarcastically says, "Gosh, Kate, I feel just awful dragging you away from rotting manuscripts and ancient texts. I mean, you used to research trolls!". Then Kate says, "It's okay. Now I get to work with one." Hellboy and a team of agents still investigating the possessed man's rampage, but Hellboy sees a sword on the floor and behind it was a mysterious fox. He turns around and then looks back to find that the fox had disappeared. While Kate is still talking to Russell Thorne and the professor's associate after they have a dispute, Hellboy picks up this mysterious discarded samurai sword, which he is then disappeared into a weird world of Japanese mythology.

After Hellboy had entered this mysterious place it, he sees the  fox spirit again known as a Kitsune that leads Hellboy into the woods. Then Kate later realizes that Hellboy is missing. It is now that neither one of them realize that he has been transported from his regular world into a magic world that is stuck back in the feudal period when the sword was created. Hellboy follows the fox only for the fox to disappear right before his own eyes. To what we know is a fox in Japanese mythology is a Kitsune. A Kitsune may seem to be a harmless creature but their true origins would precede their reputation. The Kitsune are mischievous demon foxes. They are rarely seen in their original form but are usually seen as a young woman. Kitsune's are known to possess humans and take their shapes. It shape shifts by a stroke of its fire shooting tail. It then puts on a human skull, turns around, and bow to the big dipper. If the skull doesn't fall off, the Kitsune would be a young woman which is their most successful form. It is a wanton animal meaning that in time they will deplete the energy of its victim just to move on to the next. Though in this movie The Kitsune would be a old women and when Hellboy is in the strange new world, looking around he would see the Kitsune again. Hellboy says," You're not a normal fox, and the fox says, "And you are not a normal man." Hellboy then says, "Really? What gave me away? Any idea why I'm here? ", then he also ask why is he here and the fox replies by saying, "how do I know do i look like a philosopher." The fox then goes on saying to Hellboy that he carry the Sword of Storms and it has tasted the blood of demons and that's all he needed to know. The fox then tells him not to cut himself with the sword. The fox then goes ahead and changes from its fox shape to four fireballs which leads Hellboy to a house. When going to the house, Hellboy sees a women crying. In the front of the house the mysterious women who was crying says, "oh no my love" and while weeping fades away. Hellboy enters the house and the ghost says to Hellboy, "why didn't you come for me. I've waited and waited but you never showed."  Hellboy says that she has the wrong guy. The scene would then show her story.

She was put there under protection by the samurai that she loved. The samurai who knows about how she was supposed to die by the demons, Thunder and Lightning. Knowing this he goes to a place they were going to kill her at and he battles them. The samurai put up a great fight so that she wouldn't be slain by the the demons. The samurai promised that he wouldn't interfere and he broke the promise. By punishing him, he banished the samurai and he left going through the woods. Her father who said it was a dishonor, prayed to the Gods for their forgiveness and it was granted. The father then found the samurai after he had banished him and turned him into stone. The mysterious ghost women goes on crying saying that how she waited for his return but he never showed up. The lady waiting heard footsteps and she thought it was her beloved, but instead it was her father. Her father came in and walked behind her. She dropped to the floor thinking that her love would save her but he didn't. Her father chopped her head off. The fox that led Hellboy to where he was, appeared outside of the house when zhellboy waled out. The Kitsune(fox) told him that he must protect the Sword of Storms and to go East and he would arrive to his destination.

Back at the house, while the two B.P.R.D agents is still picking up mysterious items that can help them to solve what is going on, Professor Kate Corrigan (voiced by Peri Gilpin) one of the world’s leading experts on folklore and occult history and Russell Thorne, the psychic is looking for Hellboy and reports back to the B.P.R.D to do a world wide search for him but nothing comes up. Liz starts to get angry and the guys working there was like how his equipment works but hes just not here. Liz says, "Hes not here on Earth and the man says, "yeah". Liz and Abe come to the conclusion that they need to go help Kate in Japan because whatever is going on over there they know she is going to need help. There are also some world wide disasters happening that are abnormal and Liz and Abe think that its connected with whats going on in Japan. Meanwhile, Abe and Liz are tracking down the professor to find a way to bring Red back home. In B.P.R.D. Liz and Abe decides to go to Japan to help Kate but on their way there they go through a storm. Kate then goes for the scroll and is topped by the two B.P.R.D. agents that advises her to put on gloves. They leave and she opens the scroll and reads it. She is then talking about with Russel Thorne and after finishes she trows him the scroll and not wanting to touch it, tries to avoid catching it where the scrool would eventually land in the specialized container.

The scene then goes to a man that was taking out the trash when he sees the possessed Professor. He threatens him and then the Professor pushes the dumpster where it crashes into the wall. Then all the windows begin to shatter and lightning falls down fromt the skies as it charges up the Professor and he begins to flash from his normal self to the demons. The man runs in fear. The Possessed Professor then places a little statue that has heads stacked upon eachother on a scroll. Then the Professor eyes change and he would see Hellboy walking through the forest at night. It happens that when a figure is placed on the scroll a creature of Japanese myth would appear in order to take the sword. This Japanese Yōkai (monsters) would be floating a group of nukekubi.


In Japanese mythology depending on what version, there was three merchants who were arguing to the point where they began to fight. These merchants were samurai's and they ended up each chopping the others heads off. These heads would drained down a whirlpool arguing all the way. Another version is told in the Hellboy Animated Series. This version is of Nukekubi's that during the day they appear as normal humans but at night they're heads detach and they terrorize people. Nukekubi's have one weakness and it is they're bodies. Once they detach from they're bodies they must reattach themselves by sunrise or they will die. There are also another version where the Nukekubi are more vicious. It is told that nukekubi are humanoid creatures that passes as normal humans but when night comes upon them they're heads detach from they're bodies when doing this they're bodies become lifeless. As being just heads at this point they first scare humans and then they attack them for food. Before killing them they like to shriek just before plunging in on they're victims throats. Nukekubi's usually be together in groups posing as a family. The only way you can tell them apart from normal humans is if they have a red line going across they're necks showing the place where they're heads detached. Thought this can easily be covered if the person wheres jewelry or something that can cover that area of the neck.
In the world where Hellboy is in, a man comes into the forest and tells him that it is to dangerous to sleep in the forest. The man insists that Hellboy come with him in his house since it is dangerous outside. Hellboy says okay and goes with the man to his house. When in his house, Hellboy sees five people there and the man tells Hellboy that they are also travelers lost in the forest. Then one of the travelers says a joke, which wasn't funny and Hellboy says, "well, its time to go to bed". The man takes him to the room where he would be staying for the night. So he sleeps sitting up with the sword in his hand. Hellboy then wakes up to a noise he hears. He goes through the house to see a bunch of headless bodies. He then says, "Where did all yall heads go." After he dumps their bodies into the lake. In the woods, Hellboy hear voices. Its the a group of nukekubi of the bodies who were talking about eating him. Hellboy hides behind a tree and then one of the ghosts come and says that hes missing, and that he took they're bodies. The heads eyes light up and theyre searching for him. Hellboy comes out and they attack him. He shots a bullet from his gun The Good Samaritan into two of the ghosts head. They try to hold him down but he takes a piece of wood and start hitting the heads like baseball's. When they hold him down for a second the heads ask where are they're bodies. Hellboy then says how hes tired of this crap and soon the sun comes up. The heads are destoyed except for one. The last head asked Hellboy, "where is our bodies", and the Hellboy  says as the sun comes up, "I dumped them in the lake, you should have looked harder". As he said this the last head burned in the sunlight. The Professor was angry as the Nukekubi did not destroy Hellboy. The Professor takes the little statue and in his hand fries it and turns into dust.

Back at B.P.R.D. Abe and Liz  finds out that they're are anomalies happening all over the world and that maybe it isn't just a coincidence with what happened to Hellboy. Then one of the agents there tell Abe and Liz that hes equipment isn't working but that hes nowhere on Earth. Then the scene goes back to a professor who place another mysterious statue on the scroll as before and it is of a lady that has spider like webs on her dress. Now Hellboy going through the woods sees this women playing on a string object. She then asks him if he wants to listen to her song as he says no thanks and keeps on moving. She persist that  he stays and listen to her music. Hellboy turns around and as she plays red blood is on her fingertips and as she plays the strings, the strings on the object is turning red with blood. Hellboy is then being attacked by spiders and they begin to cover his body and pull him up into the trees with webbing. Here Hellboy sees skeletons and realizes that something was wrong. The woman begins to laugh and as she rises she has the upper body of a woman and the lower body of a spider. All webbed up, Hellboy not being able to move can't protect the sword and then the spiders begin to pull the sword from off of him. Hellboy getting pissed gets free of the webbing and gets the sword killing some of her spiders. He falls to the floor and hides underneath the spider-woman's body and then runs for it now being chased by the spiders and the Spider woman. He kills some of her spiders and it makes the spider-woman even madder. She screams as she is, green flames are coming out of her eyes and mouth. Hellboy escapes only for the spiderwoman to have her body not being able to go through all of the trees. Then she screams one last time and Hellboy sees the green flames coming towards him. She ends up killing all of her spiders by chasing her and herself in the end as the forest burns.

Spiders symbolizes many things to different culture but in Japanese legends it tells of a half-human half-spider, a spider-woman known as a Tsuchigumo, translated meaning Earth-Spider. It is said that tsuchigumo's are usually depicted as a female spider that has a great desire for human blood. They are known for luring people and being able to have their victims caught in an illusion. They could have their victims believe that they are in a cottage or shrine and while the person is asleep they poison they're guests slowly. It is believed that tsuchigumo's were mythical creatures that lived in the Japanese alps until at least the Asuka period (538-710 A.D). One story tells of a traveler that was put under the spell of a tsushigumo which appeared to him as a dark skinned pale haired boy. The traveller suspectine ekd kjf

An even more angry professor appears. Now on a mission to go to Japan, Liz and Abe are caught in a massive storm that was created by the professor who is possessed by the demons Thunder and Lightning. As the pilots are trying to go through the storm the pilots get electricuted and the plane hit by a thunderbolt goes down crashing. Abe tries to go see if the pilots made it and they didn't. Liz and Abe is in the water and Liz was trapped under debris and was still in her seat. Abe came and moved the stuff away and tried to get her out and she was running out of breathe. Abe then kisses her releasing air into her mouth so she could hold her breath. Swimming up toward the surface he does it again and they've got company. In the water there are these animal creature that was enormous. Liz and Abe swims as fast as they could to shore being chased by little water creatures coming from the ocean floor. They reached shore and they're surrounded by water on all sides of the rocky land. It 's still raining and Liz and Abe decides to hid in a cave for the time being.

Then a possessed Professor shows up again and this time he places a Kappa on the scroll. The Kappa is a mythological greenish creature who is known for luring people, mostly children into the water to drown and eat them. They are are typically about the size of a child and vary widely in appearance. They usually have a turtle-like shell and scaly skin, but sometimes their skin is moist and slick, or coated in fur. Some of them walk upright on their hind legs, but are usually seen on all fours. Regardless of body type, the top of the kappa’s head usually features a bowl-shaped depression containing water, this always being the Kappa's source of power.  The Oni requires sacrifices and has a big mouth that eats and drinks a lot. After being attacked by monsters, Hellboy thought it was another trick when he saw this man by a river. The man tells Hellboy that most of his family has been taken away by the Kappa and that the only way for no one to be taken away is if he places each cucumber in the water with a person name on it . Hellboy thinking it was another trick about to walk away, was attacked by the Kappa. The man seeing Hellboy pulled underwater says, "its to late". Hellboy and the monster struggles and the man is screaming asking him what is his name.Fighting back and forth they end up at the end of the river. The man screams down the river the Kappas head is full of water. Waiting for the monster to attack he throw the monster to shore and take the cap off his head and drains the monster of his power. The man says that since he did this he was able to ask the Kappa questions and he had to answer them. Hellboy ask the Kappa what is so important about the Sword. The Kappa tells him. Then Hellboy ask the Kappa, "how do i get back", and the Kappa replied by saying, "you will save the world if you don't break the sword... but if you do break the sword you will unleash the demons, Thunder and Lightning. They Kappa dries up and then Hellboy throws the Kappa to the man and tells him not to keep the Kappa near water.
