Day Two in the City of Demons and I am still here.

What is nice about this issue of City of Demons is that it is now a comment on the how the demons are running rampant on the city.  The Demons are not being presented as horned pitchforked monstrosities that we in the Western world is taught to believe, but the Demons so far seem to work withing the mind of the person in which they are controlling. This moment of "possession"  is indicated with red eyes and throbbing veins at the side of the head.  I love this concept because that is how I would of loved to write a Constantine comic.

There are two types of Magic, the "fantasy" version like Harry Potter and then the scary "occult" Magick that Aleister Crowley made famous. These two types of magic work quite differently.  Most people like "magic" because there is no Cosmic Balance, it is fun and exciting seeing fireballs and magical blasts.  In Magick, there is a cost and it is scary thinking about that because Magick is
"the science and art of causing change to occur in conformity with the will".  In theory that type of magic is what plays in our brains.  We see Demons because our minds create the visuals.  Demons and Angels can be seen as energies and by having the physical reaction of the "possession" looking like throbbing veins and red eyes intrigues me because that is how I envision real "possession" for Supernatural forces.

What I also liked about this issue is that Si Spencer seems to understand John Constantine.  He may be a b@d@$$, but he is really a good guy.  Spencer really does balance John's strange set of friends with his need to balance the cosmos.

The only problem I have with this comic is how John Constantine is presented.  The jacket is looks cool and the all, so it gives me the impression this is an "Elsewords" Constantine or something, but there are scars over both eyes and that got to me in this issue.  They could of ignored the scars and this could of been set before Carey's run. The only explanation I can think of is Murphy was lazy on characters designs or he wanted to be flexible that he can invert the picture and the scar still visible.  This comic was in the works for years, so who really knows.  Maybe this is how John was suppose to look instead how he is presented in Peter Milligan's run.  It is a problem, not a major problem.  I love the look of this Constantine, I just can't figure out the reading order as of yet.

If you are not reading this mini series, make sure to check out the trade when it is released.

Demonic blood? Headaches from hell? Satanic Doctors? Sexy Nurse? Apologies from the burglar? In a hospital named after a Saint, that´s a lot of weird stuff that you would expect from this place and Constantine is getting more and more upset by staying there, he just wants to check out as quickly as he can, in order to get to that long awaited pint. But something tells me that this isn´t going to end smoothly. This transition in the narrative is very well writen by Spencer, who managed to...
