"Soft and Lumpy and cold as Ice"
I am pretty sure this is the first ever team up of the world famous Preacher team: Garth Ennis (writer), Steve Dillon (Artist) and Glenn Fabry (covers). This was a time before the Preacher formula, Ennis and Dillon were still discovering what would be their over the top ways together. I acutally forgot this was a Steve Dillon interior, because he art style has grown so ugly to me over time. This issue I acutally enjoyed his art because the faces were different, not like later on when a lot of his faces look a like.
This comic is the first part of the two part arc. This part explores "mortal clay" or the human body. I liked Ennis' writings in Hellblazer over Preacher because of comics like this. Preacher became a series of over the top visuals and controversial topics, while Ennis' Hellblazer run he seemed to be asking more question about deeper topics. In this issue it was about the Human Body and what happens to it when it dies? Is it just meat or something more?
The writing and the arc are great in this issue.
This will be collected in Vertigo Resurrected: Hellblazer, If you are an Ennis fan you should check it out. This comic was previously uncollected and is one of Ennis' better stories.
Cheers
